Rudolph W. Giuliani III Is A Liar

By Thomas Keyes
May 26, 2007

In his recent rebuttal to remarks made by US Representative Ronald Paul of Houston, Texas, former New York City Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani III, who is a candidate for the presidency in the 2008 election,  gave substantiable indications that he is indeed the liar any perspicacious person would conclude that he is upon a mere hearing of his preposterous remarks.

Here’s what Paul said:

“They attack us because we've been over there. We've been bombing Iraq for 10 years. We've been in the Middle East. I think Reagan was right. We don't understand the irrationality of Middle Eastern politics. Right now, we're building an embassy in Iraq that is bigger than the Vatican. We're building 14 permanent bases. What would we say here if China was doing this in our country or in the Gulf of Mexico? We would be objecting.”

To this Giuliani objected:

“That's an extraordinary statement, as someone who lived through the attack of September 11, that we invited the attack because we were attacking Iraq.

“I don't think I've ever heard that before, and I've heard some pretty absurd explanations for September 11th,"

To me, this was a prima facie lie.  As mayor of New York at the time of the attack on the WTC, Giuliani must have been interviewed by hundreds or even thousands of people.  Please don’t tell me that no one ever broached the subject of the possibility that America’s policies in the Middle East provided the provocation for the attack.  This was the very reason that Osama bin Laden gave.  This was substantiated by the 9/11 Commission Report.  This is a commonplace on hundreds of websites.  This has been reported on by President Carter. George Soros, Mearsheimer and Walt, Scott Ritter, Patrick Buchanan, Juan Cole, Eric Margolis, Joseph Sobran and many others.  But Giuliani never heard it?  He is more than just a liar; he is a shameless unregenerate liar to air such twaddle.

If Wikipedia is to be believed, there is proof positive that Giuliani heard such allegations before:

When Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal suggested that the attacks were an indication that the United States ‘should re-examine its policies in the Middle East and adopt a more balanced stand toward the Palestinian cause’, Giuliani asserted:

“‘There is no moral equivalent for this act. There is no justification for it... And one of the reasons I think this happened is because people were engaged in moral equivalency in not understanding the difference between liberal democracies like the United States, like Israel, and terrorist states and those who condone terrorism. So I think not only are those statements wrong, they're part of the problem.’”

So regardless of Giuliani’s sanctimonious comments on bin Talal’s observations, it cannot be doubted that Giuliani has heard those allegations before.  Therefore he is a liar.

Of course the attack on the WTC was a reprisal for America’s policies in the Middle East.  I simply cannot see what anyone gains by denying this obvious fact, unless his object is to humor George W. Bush as he curries favor with Israelis and American pro-Israel Zionists, for whom naturally the conquest of Iraq was a fondly sought-after desideratum.
