Ron Paul Sees Israel As A Major Factor
In The War With Islam

By Thomas Keyes
May 19, 2007

In a recently televised debate, which I have read only online, US Representative Ron Paul, from Houston-Galveston, Texas, showed his correct understanding of the fact that al-Qaeda attacked the WTC, back on September 11, 2001, at least in part because of America’s policies and activities in the Middle East.  His remarks were as follow:

“Have you ever read about the reasons they attacked us? They attack us because we've been over there. We've been bombing Iraq for 10 years.

“I'm suggesting we listen to the people who attacked us and the reason they did it. And they are delighted that we're over there because Osama bin Laden has said: I am glad you're over on our sand because we can target you so much easier.”

To this R. W. Giuliani III, the former mayor of New York City and a candidate for the presidency in 2008, answered contemptuously:

"That's an extraordinary statement, as someone who lived through the attack of September 11, that we invited the attack because we were attacking Iraq.

“I don't think I've ever heard that before, and I've heard some pretty absurd explanations for September 11th.”

That Ron Paul did not mention Israel in this context, if he didn’t, doesn’t mean that he does not assess some of the blame for chaos in the Middle East to Israel and America’s patronage of Israel.

Here are some of Ron Paul’s earlier comments on the Israeli role in helping invite the attacks:

“Those who constantly preach global government and democracy ought to consider the outcome of their philosophy in a hypothetical Mid-East regional government. If these people were asked which country in this region possesses weapons of mass destruction, has a policy of oppressive occupation, and constantly defies UN Security council resolutions, the vast majority would overwhelmingly name Israel. Is this ludicrous? No, this is what democracy is all about and what can come from a one-man, one-vote philosophy.

“Bin Laden’s claims are straightforward. The U.S. defiles Islam with military bases on holy land in Saudi Arabia, its initiation of war against Iraq, with 12 years of persistent bombing, and its dollars and weapons being used against the Palestinians as the Palestinian territory shrinks and Israel’s occupation expands. There will be no peace in the world for the next 50 years or longer if we refuse to believe why those who are attacking us do it.”

I’ve been a reader of Ron Paul’s occasional articles online for a number of years, and I know pretty well where he stands on Israel, that is, in nearly 100% solidarity with myself.  I too have delineated the Israeli silhouette on the backdrop of the drama unfolding today in the Levant.  That will probably surprise no one who has read some of my articles on the subject.  But do not think that I am alone in perceiving this.

Here are the comments of David Horowitz, editor of FrontPage Magazine and a contributor to NewsMax, in regard to Ron Paul’s political posture:

“Some of my best friends are libertarians and the greatest intellectual influence on me was Hayek. However, in practical political matters, libertarians tend to live in alternate universes, without regard for the real world consequences of their actions. Ron Paul – the only Libertarian in Congress – is a disgrace. He has waged a war against America’s war on terror, in lockstep with the left, and against the state of Israel, the frontline democracy in this war.”

Despite what Giuliani and Horowitz have to say, however, Osama bin Laden’s declaration of war against the US proves Ron Paul’s contentions about Israel’s being one of the factors – the main factor in my opinion – in precipitating the anarchy that now reigns in the Middle East:

“Also to remind the Muslims not to be engaged in an internal war among themselves, as that will have grave consequences namely:...

“6.  Division of the land of the two Holy Places, and annexing of the northerly part of it by Israel.  Dividing the land of the two Holy Places is an essential demand of the Zionist Crusader alliance.  The existence of such a large country with its huge resources under the leadership of the forthcoming Islamic State, by Allah's Grace, represent a serious danger to the very existence of the Zionist state in Palestine.”

One of the contributors to this website, Mark Gelbart, posted one of his inane rebuttals on the Paul-Giuliani debate, perhaps without being aware of Paul’s stance on Israel.  So I thought I’d make it crystal clear.
