Mar. 30, 2007 Here is a "poetic" response to the poem herein, Realize that I'm not at all a good poet... *grin* The original is in italics below, My retorts are not - on with the show!
Now I sit me down in school** Where praying is against the rule** For this great nation under God** Finds mention of Him very odd.**
Ken's confused by what's here allowed, Thinking "under God" was by the Founders endowed. It was added for political reasons later in time, Just like "God" on a penny, nickel or dime.
If Scripture now the class recites,** It violates the Bill of Rights.** And anytime my head I bow ** Becomes a Federal matter now.**
Scripture as fact was always against the law, Just as blacks and women as lessers was mere straw. Some people fought to make concrete those and this fact, Ken seems among those who disapprove of this tact.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,** That's no offence; it's a freedom scene.** The law is specific, the law is precise.** Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.**
Religious preference by any government institution, Is clearly frowned upon by our Constitution. Although this makes many "well dressed" Conservatives frown, That document is rather silent on taste, so go ahead and dress like a clown. Ken, why not adorn yourself with tights and a curly white wig, Back in the day, it was very becoming, ya dig? Surely you must know that our concept of manhood changes its display. Some of our most esteemed past leaders today would look quite "gay".
For praying in a public hall ** Might offend someone with no faith at all ** In silence alone we must meditate,** God's name is prohibited by the state.**
Personal prayer is indeed allowed around schools, Does an all power-full being require shouting, as with fools?
We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,** And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.** They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible. ** To quote the Good Book makes me liable. **
Every public school I've ever attended, Enforced rules such that swearing aloud should be ended. They did also try to outlaw evolution's teaching, By direction from dangerous religio-political preaching. We arm our soldiers with science based weapons and GPS, Not roaming chanting praying pastors and other such BS. Faith might indeed be deemed a shield and so understood, But computers and layers of metal and Kevlar are demonstrably good.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,** And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.** It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,** We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.**
Subject to a nunnery or a back alley hanger that Queen no longer is, Premarital sex is normal and healthy, even the Puritans did it, gee-whiz! Right and wrong are taught in a manner just dandy, And Christianity in this secular nation is for morality no special candy...
We can get our condoms and birth controls,** Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.** But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,** No word of God must reach this crowd.**
For the followers of Christ studies and science do they object, Because unlike in every other similar nation many here fail and neglect, To understand that an openness about sex and reproduction doth work, At combating negative aspects of society. You Jerk Who doesn't seem to understand that "witchcraft" isn't at all real, But to Wiccans, witchcraft is as a religion something with equal zeal.
(Please do not as an ad hominem attack the previous lines take, I'm just a really bad poet and needed that word, for Pete's sake!)
Solutions to many social problems already exist, And could be enabled here too if only Liberals persist. In any case, which god, and what rules? Zeus, Thor, Allah or Magical Stools? Totems are part of Native religions, are they not? And vampires are fiction, like Superman, Noah and Lott.
It's scary here I must confess,** When chaos reigns the school's a mess.** So, Lord, this silent plea I make:** Should I be shot; My soul please take!**
Not nearly as scary as religion's past, Good gods, I'm, well, simply aghast!
Jesus, protect me from your followers please,
And to American students, if you die, may you come back as trees, Or enter the Buddhist circle of life, Or hope that your karma is quite rife, Or return your constituent atoms to the vastness of space, Where they may reform some day into another sentient race...
With goodness and equality believe what you need, Just don't coerce others to follow your personal creed.
Remember that this isn't a Christian nation at all, That good president Lincoln to this idea said, "Why, the gall!!" Morals aren't to religiosity at all tied, Otherwise over human history we wouldn't so often have cried... Realize folks that the above facts from me are mostly for fun, And not really meant to poke directly at Ken, that son of a gun.
For I know that he did not write the poem he
posted, ------------ About the author Frederick Smith: I enjoy writing about the positive virtues of humanism - humanists are the good guys. I now have a blog that I will start to increasingly maintain and update. Here is the link: fredsuberview.blogspot.com/ About my personal background and life: I was born, I got some education, worked, ate, and had some kids. It seems I like to write something that was unknown to me until relatively recently...How's that for detail? ;) Hate mail is welcome unless you are from the Army Of God. Please! It's not that I mind seeing pictures of aborted fetuses in my inbox, but once you've seen one you've pretty much seen them all...
