![]() By Ken Hughes Mar. 26, 2007 Although I’ve never been on spring break I was curious to see what the Justice Department had to report on College crime statistics. To my surprise for all the attention it gets there is virtually little crime on college campuses. And one of the least offenses reported was rape, I would have thought that would be among one the highest, theft was the highest. It didn’t seem to matter what the demographics were, The Ivy League schools, those with an ultra liberal agenda scored a little higher than the average state school, religious schools were on the lower end. There wasn’t a big difference one thing was obvious College crime is well below the national average, and all crime has come down significantly since 2001. I wasn’t being honest when I said I had never been to spring break two friend and I were if Fort Lauderdale several years ago and we had to drive on highway A1A along the beach to get from Miami to our rented condo in Fort Lauderdale, [Maybe we didn’t have to but we did.] That was the year the thong showed up on the beaches everywhere there was a spring break resort. The speculation among us was the thong would do more to increase the birth rate than the New York blackout did a few years back. It seems the young people had more restraint or good sense than we gave them credit for. There wasn’t a second baby boom at least that we heard of. This brings me to my point in the past few days Fox News and other Cable Outlets have made a big thing out of the depravity of spring break. They find a spot where T and A is being flaunted and propel it into the entire spring break theme, they run their snippets at tedium. I’ve yet to see a film clips showing the students that go about doing good works in devastated areas and for some reason don’t attract media attention. As older folks watch the younger generations expand their sexuality they are there to criticize. I recall as a young man sex was every bit as available as it is today, it was hidden under a multitude of excuses. The libido in both women and men is like the common cold everyone is struck with it at some point in their youth. The youth of today can afford to be a little looser in their relationships modern science affords them the privilege. Maybe it’s that some of us older forks are jealous of the spring break crowd because they have the freedoms we had to hide under the covers. What puzzles me is Bill O’Railly God’s ultimate word on earth stoops so low as to have several segments on the subject of spring break. Could it be Mr. O’Reilly is getting his jollies from watching these clips he keeps putting up on the screen? Come on Bill Fox News has enough hotties on their sets you don’t need to ogle the Teeny Boppers on the beach’s. No I’m not a dirty old man I prefer to stay in my generation or maybe the generation younger and leave the Teeny Boppers to those with the stamina to handle the action. I will say from what I’ve been told Booze gets more action than most of those who go to spring break. I say let them have there fun they have precious little time to enjoy their youth before time and the riggers of life take it from them. ------------ About the author: Ken Hughes is a retired businessman, who’s traveled extensively, observed much and learned much.
