Mar. 24, 2007 Plain. In a sudden flash the homely woman’s face appeared to the dreamer. The dreamer was startled, even in sleep. He had been dreaming normal dreams and then the woman. He had once thought that the woman was good, on some level, because he had known her in the waking world. He also knew that the woman had something wrong with her and maybe this is why she had appeared. She didn’t say anything when she appeared there, and did not look happy or sad. It was as if she was having her picture taken in a studio and was told not to smile. Plain. What could he do? He thought that the woman had embraced a certain type of darkness or negativity. Was her soul in trouble? He didn’t say anything, but others did. Strange that he would receive the vision. He was conflicted. He didn’t like the woman any longer, and did not want to help her. There was a wall between the two of them. There were times when he had told her that she was not kind, or responsible, or doing the right things. She had mostly dismissed him. He was surprised that she was so entrenched in her ways. He had just let it all go. She would have her own destinies. Then the dream image, and the dilemma. He could see the sudden flash again, of the homely woman, who seemed good to the outside, and had a slight measure of goodness, but had been rotting all along, and was becoming more rotted with time and circumstance. He decided to stay away from her, and let it be. She was far-gone. He was not a saver of souls, a healer, or a messenger. He wondered though. In the vision she had looked clear eyed. Plain. She looked like a farmwoman or at least someone rural. Maybe something was showing him that though she was up to no good, that she was underneath at least neutral, at least plain, a canvas that the world had dirtied, that her experience had decayed. Maybe she would die in middle age and not as an old woman. Or maybe she would die a symbolic death, and be reborn as plain and good, as she was meant to be. No, the dreamer thought. It is none of that. The homely woman was now rotten. Plain rotten instead of plain good. That is what his gut said, and he had decided to go with his gut instead of his vision. Sometimes, though, the image still appeared, while he was awake. In a sudden flash the homely woman’s face would appear.
