Mar. 23, 2007 I can not turn on my television set or read a magazine without being deluged with information about Anna Nicole Smith, Angelina Jolie or Britney Spears. Once again, Angelina has adopted yet another child from Viet Nam and plans to add more. I have seen only two pictures of her with her biological child and it always seems to be Brad Pitt who is playing with and holding their daughter Shiloh. Her comments about Shiloh not being as worthy of her attention or as needy seem to have taken on an even more ominous meaning for that little girl who had the misfortune of being born to two wealthy American Caucasians. Will she have the love and attention of her mother since she is not from a third world country? Angie's comments that she wants to make sure that her Cambodian son has another Asian sibling and that her African daughter has another black sibling made me wonder what she could possibly be thinking. She soon clarified that remark stating that Shiloh, who is Caucasian, can look at her and Brad to balance her race in their family. Is Angelina adopting children to make herself feel better about herself or because she genuinely wants to parent those children? Is it a political statement or a genuine love of children that motivates her? Anna Nicole's tragic, sad, and pathetic life and death dominates the cable news shows and the super-market magazines and newspapers. Next week her autopsy report will be released, the DNA results will probably be leaked regarding her daughter and the coroner's inquest into the death of her son Daniel will be front page news as it occurs in the Bahamas. I hear people accusing her partner Howard K. Stern of murdering her and Daniel and all manner of crimes and one radio personality called him "Count Chocula" from the vampire character on the cereal boxes. The man has not been formally charged with anything and yet he is being tried and convicted in the media by the likes of Nancy Grace (a former prosecutor) Geraldo Rivera (attorney and reporter), Catherine Crier (a former judge) and good old Rita Cosby (a former and current yenta). Her baby is at the center of all of the fighting and one wonders what kind of life she'll have no matter who her father is. She was subjected to a mother taking heavy narcotics during her pregnancy, living with an enabler, the granddaughter of the mother from hell (Virgie Arthur), and is probably the biological daughter of a paparazzi who didn't use protection while having his affair with a very addicted Anna. He must have known that if she were to become pregnant there would be a great risk to any baby that they might conceive. Britney Spears is in and out of rehab and if you believe the papers she is bi-polar, suffering from post partum depression, a substance abuser (drugs and alcohol), suicidal and bulimic. There are two children's lives at stake and their father is Kevin Federline (need I say more about that??). We have real problems in our world...war, famine, genocide, ecological crisis and that's just to name a few. I keep asking the same question and I've even heard it discussed on several news shows that normally have serious content.......what is the fixation with these celebrities who are such damaged individuals that no matter how much fame, wealth and recognition they receive they are hell-bent on destroying themselves and those around them.
