Mar. 7, 2007 It’s been four years now, and we’re still in Iraq. Yet the world has not come to an end. To hear the media, and the bed wetters in Congress, if a war lasts longer than the efforts of the greatest generation it’s time to pack it up and head home. So by the logic of the elites the revolutionary war should have been given up in 1779 or 1780 at the latest. There are questions that need to be revisited, and answered once again. Why are we fighting this war? Well, I know all the spineless jelly fish on the left who would love to see Osama Bin Laden and his ilk victorious in this war, a socialist political system at home, and President Pelosi, think that we went to war for Haliburton, cheap oil, and Israel. But I seem to remember something happening on September the 11th, 2001. My memory is a little fuzzy, but it had something to do with planes crashing and a lot of people getting killed. We are fighting this war because a good portion of the worlds Muslim population is waging a Jihad against us and will stop at nothing to kill us and bring down our country. For eight years, under President Clinton, they struck out at us, in Kenya, Tanzania, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and of course, September the 11th. For eight years Clinton’s only retaliation was to threaten a punishment that never came, give a speech about moving on, and maybe issue a subpoena. That was hardly the action that instilled fear in our enemies. It only made them contemptuous of us, and encouraged more attacks. If Clinton had done something more than fire a cruise missile into an empty tent in Afghanistan perhaps the twin towers wouldn’t have come crashing to the ground. All the other talk is a smoke screen. Our war in Iraq contributed to market instability for crude oil, and Israel wasn’t exactly sold on the idea of removing Saddam Hussein. If President Bush were really the toil of Zionists and the oil industry he would have cut a deal with the Baathist regime in the favor of our oil companies, and contained Hussein so that he couldn’t attack anyone. That would have been the realist thing to do, and the one most pleasing to the corporate world. Are we winning this war? To hear the nay sayers, and the professional Cassandra’s in the media talk about it, our war against the terrorist is the worst military fiasco in American history, sine Little Bighorn. Let’s review. In September 2001 we were brutally attacked by Al-Qaida, and the Islamic world celebrated. In October 2001 we began our campaign in Afghanistan, and in December 2001, Kabul fell ending the five year reign of the Fascist Taliban. Twenty six million people were liberated, and a democratically elected government put in place. In March 2003, due to his flagrant violation of U.N. sanctions, and to fulfill American policy( passed in 1998, to remove Hussein from power) Iraq was invaded, Hussein was overthrown and another twenty six million people were liberated. This is not to say that mistakes weren’t made. Clearly, President Bush and the Pentagon didn’t plan for the terrorist insurgency that began after the fall of Baghdad, and didn’t have the right Generals in charge. Still the sins of the right, being too overconfident, are not as serious as the sins of the left, hoping for American defeat because of their masochistic belief that America deserves to be punished because it has made mistakes in the past. Is the surge working? There is one clear sign that the surge is working. The media’s deafening silence on it. The election, Anna Nicole Smith, NCAA basketball are all being talked about. If the surge were failing it would be all over the news as another sign that we’re all doomed. Violence in Baghdad is decreasing, as is violence in the Anbar province. Tribal leaders, tired of the violence Al-Qaida has wrought upon them have urged their people to cooperate with the government, to join the police, or the army. They have done so in great numbers. Muqtada al-sadr, once thought capable of bringing down the government of Prime Minister Maliki, and starting a civil war has fled to Iran and ordered his drugged up militia men to stay out of the way of American forces. We are winning. Not just in Iraq, but in the war on terror in general. More needs to be done. The left wants a very narrow war, when they want a war at all. The believe that only Al-Qaida can be a legitimate target, that Iraq was an innocent country because it had nothing to do with September 11th, or that terrorist supporting states are not real targets, only the terrorists they support. President Bush said, back in 2001, that this would be a long war. It will certainly be longer than his presidency, and may be longer than the cold war, whether Americans like it or not. We can not tolerate terrorism or the states that sponsor them. The war may be unpopular with the American people, but that does not mean that it isn’t the right thing to do. ------------ About the author: Craig Chamberlain has written more than 100 articles for Useless-Knowledge.com.
