Mar. 21, 2007 Democratic Senator from Illinois, Barack Obama, has what I believe to be a well balanced idea about how America can achieve greater credibility and increased stability/security within our own borders and around the globe. Baracks’ stance on numerous issues is simply stated below. In-depth discussion of these issues and more can be found on the web site www.ontheissues.org/senate/Baarack_Obama. I begin this list with issues that are near and dear to my
heart first and proceed forward from there. These are not necessarily in exact
order of importance, but should suffice. I have always felt we have come up
short with regard to securing our ports, railways, air terminals, and borders,
especially in the wake of 9/11. Barack Obama feels much the same. To begin with
he said we need to inspect 100% of our incoming cargo instead or merely 3-5% as
it now stands. Inspecting 100% of our incoming cargo could create a safer On the crucial topics of energy and oil consumption I have said that we need to fund programs that help to research and develop alternative and renewable energy sources and resources. Barack Obama takes that a step further. He feels we need to make the move into renewable energy a reality by 2020 by consuming or creating 20% or more of our energy from renewable sources and lessening oil usage by 40% by 2025. In order that companies participate in this venture and embrace the necessary changes this is certain to produce Barack proposes substantial tax credits to those companies. I dislike drilling in our pristine and diminishing eco-sensitive areas around the globe. Barack Obama supports a ban on such drilling to help ensure that all wildlife continue to have habitats and not become extinct. I believe that our trade agreements are not fair, but meant
to favor other countries over I know first hand how expensive an education is. I just spent $50,000 obtaining my Master’s degree in Business Management and am in the process of obtaining my doctorate at the cost of $150,000 more plus. The rising costs of education hinder many people from entering into the world of academia, thus depriving them of an education or better jobs. Barack Obama would like to guarantee an affordable education to all students that maintain a B average. I applaud his efforts to do so and hope he is able to garner support to make it a reality! Education should be a right of all American people and not a privilege for the few who can afford it. I support stem cell research and the woman’s right to choose. Barack Obama does too. Because Barack is a realist, he wants to help reduce teen pregnancy by supporting educational outreach endeavors and contraceptive availability to all teens. He feels that stem cell research is crucial to being able to wipe the slate clean for numerous diseases and maladies that now affect people from all walks of life around the globe. By appropriating serious funding for stem cell research we can begin development of various treatment programs/drugs that can help to change the plight of these unfortunate people. Healthcare is an issue that I believe should be a concern
for all people too, but many consider healthcare a prized privilege of which
should not be affordable or offered to the masses. Too often the elderly, on a
fixed income, and the poor or dwindling middle class suffer dire consequences
for not having affordable insurance and thus not having access to quality
healthcare. Barack Obama believes healthcare for all can be achieved by
balancing costs against taxes on a nation wide basis. He feels that, like
education, healthcare in There are many more issues of import to voters in ------------ About the author: Michelle Malsbury was born and raised in Champaign, Illinois.
