![]() By Ken Hughes Mar. 21, 2007 Any Washington DC insider will tell you [off the record] Hillary Clinton is perhaps the most cunning viscous vindictive woman who ever entered the halls of national politics. Publicly she’s as sweet as a sun ripened peach privately [off camera] she’s as bitter as a green grapefruit. The public has infrequently seen snippets of her seamier side Washingtonians have become accustomed to moving off the sidewalk to let her pass. In short in the coming months we are going to see a Hillary we haven’t known her before. Her many warts will begin to show. Hillary Rodham began her drive to the Whitehouse as a young Republican however the Republican Party was a little reserved for a firebrand like Hillary. Prior too entering Yale and after meeting Dr. Marlin Luther King Hillary Rodham chose to change her political party affiliation to Democratic. She spotted Bill Clinton in the Law Library at Yale and a new political dynasty was kindled the rest is history. Bill Clinton learned cool from his used car salesman stepfather Roger Clinton a man who would not only sell you a used car but help you push it off the lot. Bill Clintons mother Virginia and his stepfather Roger frequented the Honky Tonks and Gambling Dens of Hot Springs Arkansas seamier side of town where politics was King. There’s no question Bill Clinton was groomed for a career in politics from puberty. It must have taken one hell of a sales job for Bill to convince Hillary the Deb from an upscale suburb of Chicago to take her shoes off and trudge down the dusty road to Hill_Billy_Heaven Arkansas to be with her man. On the plus side Hillary did get to hang with the Gibson’s, Tyson’s and the Walton’s however infrequently. Bill hadn’t yet made his bones as a politician. Bill was a law professor at The University of Arkansas never having practiced law. Bill and Hillary Clinton were on a fast track to the Governors Mansion and then on to the Whitehouse. It wasn’t just the Arkansas political bosses pushing Bill, Hillary was there pushing and prodding as hard as she could. Hillary Clinton has dreams of the first co-presidency in American History. Hillary knew if this ally cat she married was going to amount to anything she would have to teach him how to use a litter box. She couldn’t do anything about his womanizing that was something she would have to learn to accept, an air mattress in the back of a pickup wasn’t her thing but it was a minor infraction in the greater picture of her dream. Given Bills propensity for the flesh it would fall on Hillary to create a persona for the new Clinton Dynasty in the making. In order to have her dream come true they needed money, a lot of money. That’s were one of Arkansas most prestigious law firms comes into the picture, Hillary joiners Rose Law Firm with the understanding she would make partner. Before long the Clintons were up to their buns in greenbacks. One shady deal after another came their way the Clintons were finally cashing in. Cattle futures with no cattle housing developments in the middle of swamps, the Clinton express was rolling at full steam. The only thing standing in the way of Hillary’s dream was Bills lust for the lovelies he couldn’t keep his zipper closed. Hillary Rodham the girl from an upper middle class family in Park Ridge Illinois hadn’t signed on to be a member of the Beverly Hillbillies. Some one was going to pay for her eight years of humiliation as first lady to a philandering ally cat. It was a Republican appointed special prosecutor who brought it all about. Congress was responsible but Hillary never does anything halfway. Why swat flies when you can bring down an elephant, her target has always been George Bush even though he wasn’t involved in any of the Clinton’s problems. While in Arkansas Bill and Hillary were always able to control the situation through intimidation and cohesion. Only after they set up housekeeping in Washington did they realize they were playing in the big leagues. Being the highest elected official in Washington doesn’t mean you’re the most important person in Washington. For year Helen Thomas thought she’s the most important person in town even that is subject to change. Hillary is like an elephant she has a long memory and disrespect can’t go unpunished. In this case she has no intention of punishing the perpetrators she has every intention of punishing the symbol, George Bush. At the outset Hillary believed she would only have Republican candidates to contend with, she and her supporters were convinced it would be Hillary’s election. She is the first serious woman candidate, she was Bill’s understudy for eight years, and she will have been in the senate for eight years by the time the election rolls around. That amounts to sixteen years of high level government visibility. What more impressive credentials could a person have? Along comes Barack Obama, I can’t help but believe Obama entered the race as a lark. However he has many of Hillary’s credentials if we stretch it he qualifies as half an ethnic, he comes from a middle class back ground and he’s well educated. Obama is charismatic he excites his audiences and he’s beginning to develop a message. And above all he isn’t carrying a hamper full of dirty linen. Obama is gaining ground on Hillary now if he can just stay alive until Election Day he has a serious chance of gaining the Democratic nomination for president. Barack Obama appeals to the public as a whole, He isn’t viewed as a Black Candidate his personality transcends race. Like General Powell, Condoleezza Rice, Montel Williams and many other African Americans his ability and personality outweigh any racial bigotry that would normally accompany his hopes of advancement. This in no way is an endorsement of Barack Obama, I wouldn’t vote for a Democrat if there were no Republicans running. At present my choices are between Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter. ------------ About the author: Ken Hughes is a retired businessman, who’s traveled extensively, observed much and learned much.
