Jayman The Eggman

By Brian Michael Barbeito
Mar. 9, 2007

The Jayman loved to eat and one day he and his beloved felt like a few hard-boiled eggs with salt. They put the eggs boiling on the oven, and went downstairs for a moment to the basement. The television on, they forgot to go back upstairs for the eggs, and the water evaporated, leaving the eggs to explode. With the loud sounds from the eggs and the suddenness of it all, they thought that the sounds might be those of an intruder. Up they went, armed with baseball bats. Jay went up first, with his beloved behind him. They did not call out, but slowly came up, and when they got there, they saw the eggs had exploded and made a mess of the kitchen. It had not been the intruders and this gave having to clean up their mess an easy perspective. They decided to make some banana bread with chocolate chips inside of it. They put the bats away. As they sat at the table, they noticed that autumn had really been coming into full swing. Outside there were leaves of red and yellow, and they blanketed the landscape. It looked like rain was about to start. They made some tea, and drank it in big coffee mugs. Later, the day started to turn to night, and the banana bread was made. It did start to rain, and the leaves that had looked bright and crisp on the earth were covered in wetness and darkness, as the things of the night inhabited the night, and the things of the day retired to slumber. Jayman slept too, as the owl and the raccoon looked at the night through their eyes, and heard the sounds of the deep darkness through their ears, and surveyed the world in their own way. Jayman dreamed as the wind whistled and the sun stayed on the other side of the world. He dreamed of rivers and mountains, and they were good dreams.
