The Wise Heart

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Psalm 90:12

Every day to the true Christian is a day of challenge. We are set in hostile territory, surrounded by enemies, unrecognized and unappreciated for the care we display toward those trapped in sin.
As we speak against sin and the ravages it forces upon the unfaithful we are wholly misunderstood in our desire to see men share the peace and grace we stand in as children of the Almighty Father.

Each day is valuable to the Christian. We have work to do. We have souls to pray for and protect. We have a testimony that must be shared openly and without shame. We leave ourselves open to the opportunities presented by the Spirit of God to help others see the truth of salvation.

We read with intentness because we understand the need to support our testimony with the wisdom contained in the pages of God’s written word. Faith only comes by hearing and hearing only by the word of God. Natural men do not come by this wisdom through any other source. Our faith that the words of the Hebrew/Christian bible are a reliable representation of history and truth concerning God’s relationship with men is paramount.

The Hebrew/Christian bible can be trusted. We understand this because it is largely by that collection of writings that we have come to know the True God of Heaven. We know our relationship as sons and daughters is a tangible reality. God stands by his children every day. He takes no time away from those he has chosen to share his blessing and his grace.

Understand our adoption is important. God looked upon the world and chose to save man rather than allow the world to perish in sin. He provided the means and the produced the reality of faith. He gave a gift to men that, although recognized by few, have been recognized by enough that the whole of creation will eventually face the witnesses of scripture. Jesus spoke of that day.

The Christian that applies himself to the wisdom of God will not find comfort in the world. Unfaithful humanity will always seem perplexing and chaotic. It has been said that a man who doesn’t believe in God will believe just about anything else. That is a sad view, but extremely true.

The scriptures tell the Christian that every man has that ability to recognize God. This is instilled. Every major civilization that was ever birthed had a god. All those gods were and are shadows of what men know to be the one and true God because the first man tried to insure that knowledge was handed down through the generations.

As early as Cain in the history of men this knowledge was perverted. Men could fashion their own gods with wood or gold or stone. Their gods were fashioned as beasts of the field or birds of the air or creeping things of the ground. The wisdom that came from the true God was mired in pride, selfishness and deliberate ignorance.

The True Christian has the advantage and can see the differences. Spirit recognizes Spirit and therefore the real wisdom of God survives the pollutions of the world and the ideals of humanism.

The wise heart maintains a solid relationship through faith, continually seeking the mind of God and the wisdom contained in his word. In the beginning was the Word and the word was with God and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. And that Word became flesh and we beheld his glory as that of the only begotten of the Father; full of grace and truth.
