![]() By Ken Hughes Mar. 6, 2007 Sunday March 4th 2007 was a day of embarrassment for many of us as we watched the performances of two potential presidential candidates in Selma Alabama. Hypocrisy flowed like Champaign at a French Wedding. The Clintons have never been known to be particularly religious people. Listening to the Comedy Central clips of Hillary mimicking the Southern Sisters at Sunday Services at the Baptist Church in Selma Alabama was a travesty depending on your perspective. Not only was her performance phony her material was inappropriate. How many times have Democrats said political campaigning doesn’t belong in churches? The Clintons had eight years to correct the many flaws left over from the civil rights marches of the 1960’s. To blame the current administration is ridiculous. The Bush Administration as given hope to those African Americans who wish to move up and prosper through hard work and diligence. The good life has a price welfare has a greater price the loss of dignity and self-esteem Senator Obama was in Selma Alabama trying to make a connection with southern blacks that doesn’t presently exist and with the civil rights movement of the past. Obama grew up white was educated white and only became black when he came to Chicago and got into politics. Obama’s motives for being in Selma on the anniversary of Bloody Sunday may be suspect. That doesn’t mean he wasn’t blindsided by Hillary Clinton. Obama seems to be the all American man for nearly all of America, he has charisma he’s an articulate speaker. Obama has what Hillary doesn’t the affection of his audience. There’s almost an Orwellian persona to Hillary that frightens many people. While Obama speaks of a bright future for America Hillary preaches doom and gloom. She would have the voters believe America is on the verge of going to hell in a hand basket if she isn’t elected president. Sunday March 4th wasn’t Hillary’s finest hour it was obvious to everyone her only purpose for being in Selma was to try to torpedo Barack Obama’s first real attempt to unite with southern blacks. There’s no rock Hillary and her people won’t look under to find some dirt to throw at Obama. Hillary Clinton is one of the best qualified to run for president with one exception she isn’t to be trusted. Hillary will say anything do anything and make any adjustments in her beliefs to assure her lifetime ambition being the first Madam President of the United States. Hillary learned politics from the master [her husband] who in turn learned from the old political bosses in Hot Springs Arkansas. In those days Hot Springs was the Los Vegas of the South it covered all the sins gambling prostitution and politics. When Bill Clinton was growing up he was like the Mafia Intern who cleaned the guns listened and learned. Bill Clinton was selected educated motivated financed and nurtured by the old political cabal of the south. Bill Clinton is truly the bionic politician. Hillary lacks her husband’s charm she doesn’t have that honey dipping deliver Bill has her delivery sounds more like Charley Rangel. In order to appreciate Hillary as a potential president we’re going to have to close our eyes and ears and picture her as Slick Willy reincarnated. No one said it would be easy. What are Obama’s chances, slim and none? A few more shots over his bow by the Clinton campaign and a few more of his inspiring speeches with little or no substance and his popularity will slowly fade. What are his chances of becoming the Vice Presidential candidate, again slim and none. Hillary like her husband will find the most inept uninspiring person around to serve as VP. It’s the best insurance policy she can have no one is about to shoot Hillary knowing there’s an Al Gore look-alike up next. We shouldn’t favor these early campaigns, there’s a fear the candidates may run out of material then what would the pundits do? ------------ About the author: Ken Hughes is a retired businessman, who’s traveled extensively, observed much and learned much.
