Dear Peter,

Thank you for your email.

Yes I do have other places to submit to and to contribute works to. I do not agree with the latest essay contest but I assure you, I will NOT be taking part in this contest. I do not think it is correct or polite to the other contributors to have their works treated like the columns on encyclopedia-of-stupid. I know that each contributor probably works their hardest to turn in something that they can be proud of. And I am sure that the one contributor that will be ridiculed the most is Tom Pain. Even though Mr. Pain and I do not agree on certain issues, he is a very prolific writer and I admire his works.

I am afraid that others will ridicule the works of Brian Barbeito. This man is a very imaginative, creative soul that creates from his heart. The other writers that have left from U-K and will not return, have their reasons for their actions. As for me, I can only say that U-K is where I started. I don't have to be technical or research anything medical nor evaluate driving teams in order to write. In fact, several of my columns from U-K were deleted because of someone who was jealous that i was nominated for "Columnist Of The Year" two years ago raised a stink and I requested that a number of my columns be pulled.

There are several of the other contributors to U-K that I do not see eye to eye with on their world views. But that is what makes America a great country to live in and to be from. We have the first amendment to our constitution to alllow free speach and to allow us to voice our views without fear of persecution or, as in the case of some countries, execution if you speak out against your government or express how you feel about the way your country is involved in the world.

I do not agree with this new essay contest, alot of brilliant writing is going to be made into trash, pure and simple trash. I do not know how long it takes other writers to create their submissions, but I take my time in my contributions to U-K in order to make sure that what I am saying is being correctly expressed and will not be misconstrued by others. I had enough of getting hate mail over my U-K contributions and I stepped back for a while. I did submit to other sites, but now I feel that if I contribute to U-K, it will be fluff pieces or fictional stories, for I will not report on what is going on in America nor the world out of fear of being the scape-goat and having my words twisted such as a column recently posted by the editor in his "Tom Pain" series.

Ed, you know what article I am referring to as it created alot of heat on the rebuttal board.

Peter, believe me, some of the best contributors we had at U-K in the old days are onto other sites, and for that I commend them and wish them well in their future endeavors.

But I think that this new contest is being ran simply because the Cafe Press store is not selling (I don't know that for sure, but I know several contributors that have not bought from the store.)

Again thank you for writing to me and expressing your desire that I stop contributing to this site. Please keep an eye on my own site, Prime Texas Filly, for other articles submitted to other sites and also to keep abreast of my journey into getting my book published without me paying for the printing of "Night Falls On Chicago."

Why [oh why] did you return to the [expletive deleted] that is U-K? The problem is not Tom Pain, the problem is the [expletive deleted] editor. His latest essay contest encourages writers to ridicule each other [critique and rebuttal were the actual words]. That shows how much respect he has for the contributors who have built up U-K.
