The Republic of the New Faith has taken over Planet Earth.  It is not a republic in the true sense of the word, but a term redefined by the leader of the New Faith, Supreme Chancellor Recht. 

As a result of a world war initiated by the New Faith, two thirds of the planet’s population has been annihilated.  The one third left, has become the Republic of the New Faith.  Its base, located in what was once known as the United States of America, generates a global command epicenter, where Chancellor Recht, his family, and subordinate representatives, live. They are guarded by an army of fully armed, specially programmed robots, known as the Faith Guarders, from the defense division of the New Faith Enforcers.  In addition, their living areas are protected by an impenetrable force field.  This force field is also utilized across each continent, forbidding travel and unauthorized entry and exit.  Entry and exit may be gained only through a rare security clearance grant.

The New Faith is the union of politics and religion.  It is ruled by Chancellor Recht.  All citizens must obey the New Faith’s Code for Life, or risk immediate life extermination by the New Faith Enforcers.

The New Faith issues only first names to its followers, as everyone is considered one large unit.  Each name is issued with a numbered pin.  This numbered identification must be worn at all times in public.  If lost, one must immediately apply for a replacement within twenty-four hours or risk extermination.

All citizens must wear uniforms. The type of uniform depends on the occupation of the citizen and the climate at that particular time during the year. The color, however, is always the same: beige.

No drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, or cigars are permitted, except for the approved New Faith Mind Pill.  This pill is to be taken once a day.  It is dispensed by the New Faith Government, mailed to all registered families, on the fourth day of each month.

Private farming has been outlawed.  New Faith Citizens must receive their food from government run food centers that offer only genetically modified food and meal replacement mixes.  The food is bland, with little variety.  Only three meals a day are permitted at the designated times.  Variations are not allowed.  Any citizen, who becomes ten pounds over the weight deemed appropriate by the New Faith Health Representatives, is exterminated.

Citizens who are permanently disabled and/or diagnosed with long-term physical and/or mental illnesses are also exterminated, to keep the New Faith strong.

There is not a judicial system, nor are there any reform programs, or prisons.  Instead, the monitors and enforcers view all activity, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.  What is acceptable and unacceptable is clearly known to all.  Those who break the code are exterminated and order is immediately restored.

Homosexuality is punishable by death, as is any sexual activity not officially approved by the New Faith Unifiers.  Mates are chosen for all citizens by this group.  Divorce does not exist and couples may only reproduce twice.

Private homes and singular house structures are not permitted. Shelter is provided to all citizens in communal style building structures, known as New Faith Units.

There is only one language spoken on the planet: English.  The English spoken among the citizens is infused with words from other, long extinct languages, though completely void of accents.  The written language rules forbid accent marks, to deter any deviation.

All creative arts and humanities have been deleted from the New Faith Schools.  There are no longer private learning establishments of any kind on the planet.  Instead, the primary focus is on implementing the Code for Life, a book that all citizens must read every day, especially during the three daily mandated reading times. All levels of learning and occupations are based on the discretion of the New Faith Representatives of Education.   One’s advancement, or lack thereof, can be determined as early as ten years of age, with little variation.

Salaries do not exist.  All New Faith Citizens receive free access to food, shelter, healthcare, and education, through their government.  All are considered equal, until…someone deviates from the code.

Author’s note: This excerpt is from a science fiction novelette I am writing titled, Republic of the New Faith.  It was inspired by a nightmare I had last year.  May that nightmare never come true!
