Jun. 5, 2007 I guess that we can all sigh a big sigh of relief. Lindsey is back in rehab and Paris is in jail. Never mind the war, would-be terror plots, threats from foreign nations, world hunger, missing people and all other unimportant trivia, all is now right with the world. Poor Paris is in the Special Needs wing of her jail and no one will be able to mess with her. Lindsey will spend a few weeks in rehab and go right back to carrying vodka in her water bottles and maybe a bunch of other idiots who pass for celebrities will follow suit to get redemption and publicity by checking into yet another luxurious rehab facility. What is horribly sad about this aside from the fact that these people contribute nothing whatsoever to a decent society, is that people who really need rehabilitation can't afford it. They certainly can't afford to stay in places like Wonderland or Promises. I spent three months listening to wall to wall coverage of Anna Nicole and now it's Paris and Lindsey. What in the world is wrong with the media that these trivial people are the only way that they can boost their ratings? Every year some new cable show is being created to cover the same old garbage and the same old naughty Hollywood bad girls. Sources for these shows are now tabloid reporters who wouldn't know the truth if it hit them in the head and who are only interested in the face time that women with shows like Nancy Grace, Greta and Kimberley give to them. The fact that a former Star Magazine reporter is now considered as a real news source is scary and speaks directly to what pop culture has contributed to our society. Nancy Grace always shows the picture of a fallen hero at the end of her show as if that could make up for the crap content that the rest of her hour long scandal sheet offers the public. If I were the family of one of those kids who died fighting in a war I would cringe at the thought that my son or daughter had been used to offer some legitimacy to what is otherwise a cable version of The National Enquirer. Anyone want to bet that Paris drives drunk again or that Lindsey goes back to doing drugs and booze in short order after serving their time? They are surrounded by "yes" people and enabled by their own parents to behave badly so what is their incentive to clean up their acts and live a positive lifestyle? They are paid big bucks to be a danger to themselves and other people. What kind of example are these people setting for the kids growing up today? Why do we as parents allow these shows to continue glorifying their bad behavior? I have written to the various shows who I believe are doing harm to society and I never hear back from them. If I wrote to praise them I would surely get a reply. As a matter of fact, when I did praise some of the hosts of these shows regarding their coverage of the Holloway case I got replies and that shows me that unless you support them in a positive way, you are unimportant and unworthy of a response. I don't have any answers to the problems that these shows are causing because the truth of the matter is that millions of people seem to require the gossip and constant coverage that they spew every night and their ratings aren't being hurt in any way. I stopped watching Nancy and Greta and the rest of the harpies of gossip but I am only one person and one doesn't count in the ratings wars. If any of you are bothered by what is now passing for genuine news perhaps you could take the time to write the various shows that thrive on covering Hollywood's bad girls and boys. Maybe the number one could grow and the networks who employ and sanction these purveyors of nonsense would listen and make some changes. How disgusted do we have to become before this stops and the morons who are getting so much attention are finally ignored and relegated to the dung heap of trivia where they belong? What will it take to clean up the media and force it to inform us of what is truly important in our world without prejudice or a self-serving political spin? To see the media go back to the days when real news was reported as it happened without talking heads who either need the money and exposure or have a personal axe to grind would be a blessing in my lifetime. I remember when it was possible to watch the news without walking away with a feeling of total disgust. If that once noble institution known as true journalism were to return, it would surely be the most important news of the week. ------------ About the author: Meri has a Medical/Legal background and is a former forensic researcher specializing in psychological profiling. https://www2.xlibris.com/bookstore/bookdisplay.asp?bookid=27335 Email: writers2@cox.net Comment on this article here! ------------ All articles are EXCLUSIVE to Useless-Knowledge.com.
