July 29, 2007 ![]() Streets that were proud decades before, and many of the brick houses were sturdy bungalows. That was when there was a strong middle-class, and even the industrial corridors kept an amount of brightness and promise. People didn’t think too much of far off places, alive in the bustle of their present as they were. If you dug deep enough, you could find out what was on this person or that person’s mind, but they were common things. If you looked far enough you might find somebody that knew about a harmonic convergence years into the future. That is nice, but there is nothing compared to the hot summer light on a blue work-shirt, and there are deer, but they are somewhere north, and there are tropics, but they are mostly a dream. You see there were a time when the seasons came on time, and not only the seasons that concern themselves with leaves, but also the seasons of the heart and of the mind. The world had been long since turned upside down, and the proud houses were not what they were. The industrial corridor barely held its own, and presented with too many windows covered with boards and black spray paint markings that made sense to only a few. But there was a woman, and she had grown up around there. She was of medium height. She had the good and the bad of the area in her walk, in her clothes, in her blood and in her being. She wore faded jeans and running shoes. She had short dark hair, and fine lips, like her lips had been created with precious care and placed on her face. It was a brown shirt she wore, and so in love with her partner she was, they kissed often and held hands. She was, ‘happy with her situation,’ as someone put it after one glace at her. Her fingers were long and fine and it was a treat to watch them, because they were not like fingers, but more like something else, something of a higher accord or purpose. She had brown eyes and when she walked, in her denim, in her way, she represented her environs more than she would ever know, more than she would ever understand. ------------ Email Brian Michael Barbeito: Brian1750@Hotmail.com Comment on this article here! ------------ All articles are EXCLUSIVE to Useless-Knowledge.com and are not allowed to be posted on other websites.
