Internet Taunting Results In Torching!

By Patrick Hurley
July 25, 2007

Here is one for the books, er, the net.

An internet exchange between two men resulted in one driving across the country to burn down the other one's trailer. Yes, you read that right. Threats and posturing between two men on line actually played out in reality after one of the men called the other man a, "nerd." Evidently, this insult was too much to take sitting down...at his keyboard. So, he got into his car and drove from his home in Virginia to Waco, Texas, and burned down the insulting man's home.

It just goes to show that taunting each other even in cyberspace can have serious ramifications in real life.

I wonder what would have happened had the offensive party had used a profanity or had insulted his mother, instead? Decapitation? Wood chip shredding? Even worse, what if the two guys had offered to box each other? No, no one is that stupid...

So, the lesson learned here is that no one is really safe in the privacy of their own home when they are typing insults to people they meet out there online. You never know what could happen when words get so heated someone acts on them. It is one thing to be called a nerd, it is quite another to be called a nerd from someone who lives in a TRAILER! Especially, if they are from Texas. That probably tipped the scales in favor of arson. Maybe if the offensive remark had been uttered by a wine taster in San Francisco, there would have been less violence.

So, the moral of this story seems to be that if you are going to call someone names, at least have an education and don't be a redneck. If you are not an intellectual, be polite or your trailer and the three cars that you are currently working on are going to be char-grilled. Smart people can insult other smart people, but dumb people are not allowed to offend smart people. Because then the smart person, who knows how to set fires to the residences of those who claim to have seen UFO's will react strongly and prove they are not nerds. That is why this particular smart person is now serving a seven year jail sentence for torching a name caller.

How stupid is THAT?
