By Patrick Hurley July 22, 2007 There are two kinds of dumb; lack of intellectual depth and self-imposed stupidity. The first is excusable, the latter is not. No one ever expected much from Alfred E. Neuman, but if Bill O’Reilly ever hoped to become a credible journalist he needs to start by apologizing to Dave Holloway and Beth Twitty for the unprofessional report he made concerning their daughter, Natalee. Quoting an unnamed source, which was appropriate since the conclusion of that mysterious informant was as sensible as a Michael Vick dog adoption; Billy Bob Reilly stuck his big, fat foot in his mouth when he revealed that Natalee Holloway, who went missing on the island of Aruba on May 30, 2005, may have accidentally died from cardiac arrest due to a cocaine overdose. Because no one has done a physical examination on her body to confirm this ridiculous claim, O’Reilly and his source are as believable as a Barry Bonds steroid denial. There is a good reason why there has never been an autopsy on this young girl; it is because her body has never been recovered. The question is two-fold: Why would someone make an unsubtiantiated claim that cannot be proven and who is the brain-dead moron that somehow got past O’Reilly’s producers and posted this on his teleprompter? The answer to the first question is simple. Aruba is still trying to prove to the world it is a safe island that is free from criminal activity. They continue to claim that Ms. Holloway’s death was a tragic accident brought on by her own lack of responsibility when it came to drugs and alcohol. This argument is tantamount to claiming that Pearl Harbor was caused by the irresponsible Navy leaving their ships out in the harbor forcing the well-intentioned Japanese air force to mistake Hawaii for bombing exercises in the Sea of Japan. Natalee Holloway did drink the night she was murdered. She was of drinking age and partying is something a lot of young people do on vacation. She also got into a car with three boys that night. Her consequences should have been a hangover, an embarrassing memory or a lesson that guys can be jerks when they drink around girls. Her lesson should not have been the end of her life. When it did, those same three boys lied to the police and insisted they dropped her off at the Holiday Inn after they toured the lighthouse on a fun-filled lark with a little kissing going on between one of the boys, Joran Van Der Sloot and Natalee. That same boy led the lying brigade by accusing two security guards of being the last ones to see Natalee just before she disappeared. In order to fully comprehend the integrity of this psychopath, you need to understand that he also changed his story three more times after that. His final version has him innocently leaving Natalee alone on the beach because he had school the next morning. Uh huh. That is like Ted Bundy saying he decided not to kill the girl who went missing after she jumped into his car because he was singing in the church choir at the 11:00 a.m. service. To all the lying boys and men out there, a girl does not have a few drinks and then disappear off the face of the earth without help. Get it? Furthermore, if Joran is so innocent as he claims, why did he lie four times about the last time he saw Natalee? In order to understand that, you have the answer to the second question: Who was this unbiased source that spun O’Reilly’s head around? Fasten your seat belt because the answer may surprise you… It was the former police chief that headed up the initial investigation the night Natalee disappeared: Jan Van Der Stratten. He concocted the cocaine overdose theory. The Dutch fox in the hen house of truth. He not only stonewalled the investigation two years ago, he continues to do it in retirement as he hides out in the Netherlands. He has a dual motive here. First, his closest friend is none other than Joran’s father, Paulus Van Der Sloot. What are the odds that he is going to arrest the son of his good buddy and charge him with rape and murder? The same odds that he is going to villify an innocent girl and try to use her supposed “drug use” an issue. Secondly, he also gets to cover his own flaws in the investigation that failed to produce enough evidence for a viable suspect. An unnamed source. No body. No evidence of cocaine use concerning Natalee Holloway. No evidence of cardiac arrest. Most of all, no explanation that even if it did happen that way, why would Joran and his friends get rid of the body? That is not something people do when someone overdoses. It is, however, something murderers do to cover up their crime. The unnamed source in his efforts to discredit an innocent girl speaks volumes more about his shameful attempt to demean her and the ones who ended her life. If Aruba wants to get its reputation back it needs to stop pointing the finger at a lovely, vulnerable victim and bring the real perpetrators to justice despite the despicable efforts of its own law enforcement officials. The greatest injustice is the one that claims it is serving justice at the expense of the innocent and not the guilty. Bill O’Reilly should be ashamed of himself for allowing this travesty on his air wave. He should apologize to Dave Holloway and Beth Twitty immediately. Natalee Holloway never had a moment of peace once she got into the car that night. It would be so nice if we let her have some now. She is a life worth celebrating, not shaming. Especially, if the interpretation of her very special life is made by those who would claim that a lovely lake is defined by the scum they themselves put there intentionally to destroy its beauty and to discourage anyone from comprehending its attraction at the expense of their own sense of obvious degradation. Natalee Holloway will never be defined as a cocaine user in life or in death despite the Aruba publicity machine and the criminals who oil it. She will be forever memorialized as a typical American girl who loved her friends, adored her family and had hopes and dreams and talents that were cut short on a fateful night when the selfish darkness of others made choices for her ending to abort the blessed potential that was her essence. David Holloway and Beth Twitty raised a remarkable daughter.
