July 10, 2007 Last weekend, 24 hours were devoted to pushing Al Gore's mighty message to the world at large. It was blasted to the heavens from stadiums on 7 continents and broadcast via satellite to millions of people who had nothing better to do. Setting aside the fact that 98% of Mr. Gore's message is hocus pocus that can't be substantiated scientifically; and has actually been proven to be quite the contrary of what he insists is an "Inconvenient truth", look at how he chose to deliver his message. The only "Inconvenient truth" was that he attempted to sell us this crap in the first place, and in the manner in which it was presented. I guess if you fail at one career there's always room to create another one even if it's based on unsound and unproven science and his own vivid imagination. I have only one request of Mr. Gore in his future endeavors; learn the difference between fact and fiction and don't attempt to pass off one for the other. How many gallons of fuel were burned and wasted in transporting both entertainers and concert goers to the venues on the 7 continents? Add up the amount of electricity wasted with the plugging in of hundreds of amps and other sound equipment. How much waste does it take to show the world that we are using up our resources? How many of those resources were used during that 24 hour period to deliver Mr. Gore's bogus message? Yes, we need to take better care of our planet and there's no doubt in my mind that we could be far more vigilant in how we live our lives. But, was this the way to prove that point? They posted several email responses to what people thought of the worldwide concerts on channels like MTV and a lot of people commented on what I am typing in this article. I was a little surprised to read the email of some very young people who agreed with me that the whole thing was a sham and a waste. Setting aside the waste and the unproven message; look at the entertainment provided to remind us of how we are destroying planet earth. There were so many off-key, untalented individuals performing during that 24 hour period that it was frightening in it's ego inflating assumption that we would actually be entertained by a lot of those performers. I suspect that many of them were not there to deliver Mr. Gore's dire message, but to boost sagging careers and to attempt to re-establish themselves as power players in the very unforgiving music business. Hour after hour of noise, wasted energy and inflated egos was too much for this viewer. Here are some "Convenient" links to enlighten and inform: Opinion Journal Heartland.org I should add in fairness that there are many who agree with Mr. Gore, at least in part. There are those who claim that he got most of what he wrote and filmed correct, albeit, with a lot of "exaggeration". Scientists often disagree and that's part and parcel of how scientific facts are eventually proven and established...but...there is NO room for exaggeration in any real science if we are to rely on it. ------------ About the author: Meri has a Medical/Legal background and is a former forensic researcher specializing in psychological profiling.
