Sometimes The Way Out Is The Way In

By Brian Michael Barbeito

-          Sometimes the way out is the way in…

-          Huh?

-          Sometimes the way out is the way in.

-          Whadya mean?

-          There were these two guys that climbed a mountain, and they didn’t use all the tents and such to climb it in stages. Their philosophy was straight up the mountain, reach the goal, and get straight down again. But on the way down something went wrong. They got caught in a storm, and one guy fell off a cliff. A rope tied them together. You are never supposed to cut the rope apparently. It’s like a cardinal rule. But the guy on top thought the other guy was dead, so he cut the rope.

-          And what then?

-          The guy that fell wasn’t dead as it turned out. He ended up in some sort of a cave, hanging by his rope. He tried to climb up the rope, as he was in midair. But he didn’t have the strength. There was no way. He saw an opening below, and went down and into it. Problem was, if he was wrong, there’d really be no chance of getting back up to the exit above, if he could eventually gather strength, because he’d be too far down now. But he chanced it, and went down. The opening led out, and he had an ordeal after that, but he made it. His leg had been broken, and it was difficult to move ahead. He just concentrated on going a small distance at a time. Eventually he made it back to some sort of base where the search party was. They had just finished packing up and getting ready to leave. They had even said some prayers for him, said their goodbyes. Then he came through the door.

-          Neat.

-          They even made a movie about it. The movie was actually pretty good.

-          So sometimes the way out is the way in.

        -      Sometimes the way out is the way in…
