I’ll Try It Pat’s Way

By Tom Pain
Jan. 18, 2007

I want Pat Hurley, Brooks Mick, Robert Reyes, Ken Hughes, and all the others who have left this site to return. Except Judy Lloyd and Dennis Siluk – and they only because their articles, and any dialogues with them, were like alien communications.

Of course, I never wanted them to leave in the first place. True, I’d like Pat and Ken to just be men enough to admit they lied about me, but I know that will never happen and it doesn’t bother me. Why it doesn’t bother them that everyone knows that to be true, I don’t know. And Robert seemed to quit with the irrational insulting that I complained of long ago, after I published this article, so I have had no problem with him in a long time – except when he’d pop up with an insult of me on occasion. I don’t recall writing anything negative about him since that article.

I’ve never had any problem with Brooks, and haven’t a clue what his problem is with this site since he’s chosen not to explain his absence. I did send him a precautionary apology, in case he felt I had offended him in some way, although I’ve looked through all of my writings and can find nothing that should have.

Regardless, according to Pat’s article yesterday, each of these men have complaints with me and requested changes be made to U-K before they’ll return. I would note that while I’m criticized for hostility, I can see four different articles on U-K in the last week that are as insulting of me as I’ve ever been to others, and yet those authors are not criticized. It seems that integrity is not a quality that these gentlemen prefer for this site.

I’ve decided to agree to one of their changes in the spirit of compromise. In his article, Pat demanded that articles on the main U-K page no longer be allowed to cite other author’s names. Although I am rarely guilty of this in recent weeks, unless specifically responding to someone’s mention of me, I can agree to this request if others are restricted as well.

As for his demand that the Rebuttals section be eliminated, I know of no rational reason for that request. I understand and agree that posts in the Rebuttals section should be civil and not make personal attacks, but writers should be allowed to post a logical and respectful difference of opinion. If the Rebuttals section did not provide that venue, those articles would appear on the main page. In fact, they did appear on the main page until the Rebuttals section was created, and that was the reason why the Rebuttal section was created.

If author’s names are not allowed on the main page, ergo no specific reference to their article, then a rebutter is forced to expand his article to replicate the original post’s context so that his/her rebuttal is understood. The net result would be huge, boring repetitious articles. I think the better solution is to retain the Rebuttal section but mandate civility. Repeat offenders could simply have their access to the Rebuttal section suspended.

So, from now on, you will not see me mention any other author’s name in a front page article. It will not be difficult for me to exercise that discipline. Of course, you may see an article from me about PatH Urley, Broks Mik, Kenny Huhges, and Rober Treyes…
