Should George W. Bush Be Impeached?

By Timothy N. Stelly, Sr.
Jan. 5, 2007

In my view, I think George W. Bush has earned an impeachment. Should he be impeached? No.

I believe Bush lied about WMDs. Bad intelligence? C'mon, these advisors to the President are supposed to be some of the best minds our nation can produce, yet despite all the up-close espionage, eyes in the sky, snitches, advanced technology and whatnot, they still fall prey to faulty intelligence? This is compete and utter bulls—t.

As a kid who spent a lot of time in the Principal’s office, I learned quickly, to keep a lie simple. The more convoluted your tale, the more traps you set for yourself. Politics is no different. Presidents, like boys on the schoolyard, are liars. George came into office knowing how to keep his lies terse. He's not the first.

We’ve seen it from LBJ to Nixon, Reagan, Clinton…why is it so difficult to see that Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld simply followed in that grand tradition?

John Rendon, PNAC and your down-low Presidential advisors plotted Saddam's coup more than a decade ago. Looka the historical precedents--Norieha, Duvalier, Marcos--used and then abused.

Go to PNACs website and dig through it. It’s no secret that the U.S. wants to flaunt its military muscle to control the world, and it’s not about spreading democracy. It’s about domination, and I believe our so-called leaders would be better off if they simply admitted as much. After all, who doesn’t want to be the hog with the big nuts? Americans would readily accept that our country is fighting to show the world we're still boss! We are a war mongering country. One thing about our fighters--we never have to worry about ring rust, as we become entangled in a skirmish every 20 years or so. Furthermore, America is the world’s police chief by default. What better reason for us to show how strong we are, and that we can outgun the bad guys (terrorists)?

The PNAC philosophy is that if we control the Middle East, we can control the flow of oil, and thus have a greater chance of stifling China economically and militarily. We can also exert enough influence to get those countries to expand their economies, hence, greater markets for American goods. Also, there is a military advantage for getting a toe-hold in the region.

How do we accomplish this quickly and without rebuttal? WAR! In short, the troops ain’t coming home. Fuggeaboutit. More will be sent over to die, in what amounts to American egotism, ethnocentrism and corporate greed. That’s the American Way, or have you forgotten? Look for the draft to be reinstated as well. No matter how unpopular it may seem, Amewrica’s going to need soldiers, and youngsters aren’t exactly pushing and shoving their way into line to travel halfway across the world to get gassed, blown up, or literally shocked out of their wits.

Charles Rangel will probably lead this charge, and he has nothing to lose. He won’t be in Congress much longer, anyway. He’s made his money, left his mark (or stain), so what does he have to lose? It’s not like he’ll be donning a helmet and flak jacket any time soon--and most likely, neither will his privileged children or grandchildren.

This is just the beginning, folks. First Afghanistan, then Iraq, next Iran and possibly North Korea. America is the big boy at the party who likes to get a few beers under his built and then look for somebody to kick in the ass. All of this to let everyone know who’s large and in charge.

Bush is a liar. Go ahead and live in your fantasy world and deny it. But how can you call for the ouster of a President for lying about a booty call, then turn around and ignore the President who fabricates a reason for sending thousands of twentysomethings off to die in a war that has less credibility than anything Hollywood could ever conjure up?

In fact, I even have my doubts about 9/11. While I'm not willing to say we did it ourseoves, I won't put ANYTHING past our government. Such an event shocked Americans into rallying around a President and his "cause," just as PNAC planned it.

Still, an impeachment looks bad, and since the Presidency is the most noble position on the planet (at least, in theory), such an act would damage our credibility further.

So we’re stuck—with a figurehead President who is an inarticulate, reality-adjuster, and with a war where there are no winners.

And just think, folks, the worst is yet to come.
