Feb. 27, 2007 Let me begin this glowing endorsement for Riviera Yachts by stating that I have held jobs in the marine industry where I was charged with setting up boat shows and handling advertising. As such I am in no way a stranger to the grandeur and spectacle that some parties present. That said I have never been party to such splendor as that of the 2007 Riviera Yachts VIP party at the Big Fish restaurant on the Miami River. I gained entry because the captain of our boat, Tango: a 63 foot Bertram Motoryacht that was previously owned my Monty Traynor, had just gotten his Yacht Brokerage license and is working with the gentlemen from Florida Yachts International, who represent Riviera Yachts in the southern United States, and hope to garner the listing for sale of our fine vessel. The party began promptly at 7:30 pm on Thursday, February 15th, 2007. I had not previously been to the Big Fish restaurant, but would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a wonderful meal in a lovely surrounding with superlative service. Tables had been set up at the main entrance where charming young women scratched your name off the VIP list upon entry. A badge was handed to each person according to the reason for attendance. My badge was that of client, but there were badges for vendors and other merchants as well. My husband and I snaked through the crowds into the open air portion of this restaurant where restaurant staff waded through the patrons of this party holding silver platters stocked with miniature crab cakes, chicken kabobs, and various other delicacies. The bars were open and stacked four deep in wait for call highballs. Tables had been erected at junctures around this outdoor area that paid tribute to numerous tasty vineyards serving the latest whites or reds. Along the far wall were lengthy tables clothed in white table cloths that held chafing dishes filled with pasta salads, Caesar salads, steamed vegetables, steak and fish dishes along with breads and homespun butter. The dessert portion offered an array of flans, cakes, fresh fruit dishes, and tortes topped with a variety of sauces and powdered sugar. Midway through dinner Riviera Yachts began the show and sale portion of this event. A large screen was set up between the indoor and outdoor portion of this restaurant area whereby Riviera Yachts name had been splashed upon for all to preview. Next, some of the VIP's from Riviera Yachts were introduced, stood on the small bandstand while the screen portrayed a time lapse of their organizations beginnings. This part was mostly dates and not too great in my humble opinion. I believe that I even mentioned that I could have done a better job for them. I wondered if this party may be a flop with the exception of the great meal and mingling, but was soon to be proven wrong in that thought process. All of the sudden the latest version of a variety of Riviera Yachts lined up under the bridge and paraded one by one in front of the now gaping audience with all of the poise and romance of great runway models while interior/exterior shots and important statistics of each vessel took their turn on the large screen. I was dumbfounded. We moved toward the water to get a better view of this procession and were rewarded in that process. At the close of this spectacular showing of their latest and greatest vessels each vessel spun one last time and then backed into the dock for all spectators to preview. The audience was enthralled and moved toward these gentle giants to glean a better view that had been presented on the screen. The show and party was a huge success. Riviera Yachts could not have pulled off a better party of show and sell. Bravo Riviera Yachts! ------------ About the author: Michelle Malsbury was born and raised in Champaign, Illinois.
