The following article was written in concert between Michelle Malsbury and Ken Hughes for your comments and perusal. As some of the more fastidious readers of Useless Knowledge know, Ken and Michelle have collaborated from time to time. Ken thinks Michelle is a political neophyte, Michelle knows Ken is one. Given their political differences a genuine friendship has developed despite their opinions and perspectives. They offer up questions and answers that are timely and of importance. Whether you agree or disagree they welcome the opportunity to reach you through this forum at Useless Knowledge. Sit back, relax, and enjoy. All comments will grudgingly be considered! Ken [Hillary], I think she's making several irrefutable mistakes veering off to the extremis left the way she is. Her comments saying she was misled by Bush on the war in Iraq are inaccurate. If you read my recent article there's proof Bush was misled by the Clinton Administration. It was the Clinton group who were adamant Saddam had WMD’S for several years before Bush came into public prominence. This is a caser where a political party is denying the position they took when they were in the majority. Michelle I believe Hillary and many other members of congress feel that this administration has been less than honest with regard to the information used to convince them that a war with Iraq was necessary and just. I do not know why the Republicans cannot take responsibility for their less than accurate intelligence data leading up to this ill-fraught war instead of blaming everything on Clinton. Ken Hillary recently stated if she knew then what she knows now she wouldn't have voted for the resolution to invade Iraq. It’s entirely probable if President Bush knew then what he knows now and hadn’t riled so heavily on the Clinton administrations intelligence data he would have acted differently as well, hindsight is usually 20-20. Michelle I feel that all of congress would share this sentiment that Hillary spoke about with regard to the fouled information that was presented to congress as concrete evidence that we should invade Iraq. Furthermore, there is data suggesting that even without the resolution giving Bush permission to invade Iraq he [Bush] had it in his mind to invade them regardless. For more information on this see Bush Presidential Directives. Ken Hillary and Nancy may understand socialism they don’t understand capitalism. They may understand how to play the media they have yet to learn Congress is still a “Good Old Boys Club” and they'll play hell trying to play them. For the most part this country has never been in better shape, employment is at an all time high. Economic indicators are at an all time high. The deficit is being reduced. Rescission is an argument the democrats can’t substantiate. The proof is tax cuts work. Michelle I believe that all members of congress understand capitalism and socialism, both of which have good and bad points. Just because one thinks that some parts of socialism can work better under the capitalistic umbrella does not mean that there is a lack of understanding on behalf of those that are presenting it. No doubt congress is a “Good Old Boys Club.” However, as sure as Americas vote this past November that club and much more are due for a change. Ken This nation thrives on investment if the government takes away the investment capital in taxes from business and the investors the economy suffers. When the economy suffers the people suffer, socialism is a failed ideology it seems everyone knows this but the liberal politicians. America became the greatest nation on earth because the individual was encouraged to do their thing without government interference. That’s something Liberals don’t seem to understand government is a parasite on the economy. The less we have the better off we are. Another thing large corporation are made up of small investors usually through their retirement accounts, stealing their profits effects the average citizen in more ways than one. Michelle Various forms of socialism/capitalism are working and thriving in Europe. A relatively small percentage of the people are thriving in our investment markets at this time because America has lost our manufacturing base to China, India, and Japan. If America wants to truly thrive then we need to invest in our people here! We need to shift our mindset back into things that America can create and place emphasis there in the way of tax savings instead of ushering in more and more CAFT’S and NAFTA”S that are not truly based on fair trade, but free trade for those countries that used to have lesser economies than we did. What our government has forgotten is to take care of the Americans first! Ken The economy's been the best in our history under the Bush Administration. Why because Bush hasn't tried to mess with it he’s allowed business do what they do best supplying the public with what it wants not what some politician thinks it needs. Bush understands one size doesn’t fit all. The reason we have such large trade deficits is simply because we are one of the world’s largest consumers of goods and services. The trade deficit can be reduced when we sell more to other nations than we consume. Michelle Our economy thrived under Clinton. Under Clinton we saw record home sales and record highs in the stock markets. The jobless rate was far less that we currently have when Clinton was in office. Under Bush we see stagnant or falling home sales and rising unemployment in the white collar segment of our population, as well as, record numbers of people filing for bankruptcy. Ken One year into a Hillary presidency and the wheels will come off the economy if she tries what she's suggesting now. Of course Hillary is a pragmatist with no scruples what so ever. We’ve learned her word isn’t worth the dung found in a barnyard. Should Hillary decide to fall back on Bill’s economic philosophy of an over inflated stock market, lying about a balanced budget, corporate corruption, phony statistics, gutting the military to show positive results of cutting government, then she’ll be a one term president. Bill Clinton didn’t have to deal with the internet Blogger those pesky people who manage to get the truth to the public. Michelle Had Hillary had the benefit of a democratic congress when Bill was president there would have been healthcare for ALL Americans and not the select few who can afford it while Bill was president he balanced the budget left over from the previous Bush overspending spree. Hillary understands that America can only excel if our government helps to level the playing field for ALL people. Bush is squeezing out the middle class by giving big business all of the tax benefits and creating a nation where there are only the haves and have knots. What Bush has yet to understand is that America is not a monarchy! Ken It’s probable Hillary will become president and Obama will fill out the ticket it’s also probable Republicans will regain both houses of congress and will shut down any radical proposals Clinton / Obama come up with to further socialize this nation. With each election the voters become more informed and are less likely to believe those meaningless campaign promises. Michelle I would like to see Hillary and Obama on the democratic ticket, but I don’t believe that congress can be taken back by the scandalous Republicans who cover up instead of addressing serious problems within their own party’s ranks. At some point in time the republicans need to accept their failure to take the heat and the blame for the shortcomings they have inside their ranks and come clean/be honest to and with the American public, and then perhaps they can win back congress This concludes the exchange between two old friends. It also proves discussing politics doesn’t have to be hostile and when the discussion’s over they can still be best of friends ------------ About the author: Ken Hughes is a retired businessman, who’s traveled extensively, observed much and learned much.
