Feb. 5, 2007 There is a former Prosecutor named Nancy Grace who appears on both Court TV and on her own television show on CNN Headline News every day. There was a time when I enjoyed her outspoken opinions and the fact that she seemed to fight for the average Joe. That time has long passed. Ms. Grace has turned into a loud, obnoxious and rude person. She interrupts her guests and makes fools of them in every way that she possibly can unless they happen to agree with her point of view. Some of Ms. Grace's guests are fellow lawyers (mostly of the defense variety) and some are editors for not terribly credible magazines like "The Star" and "In Touch Magazine". They spew their headline stories and Nancy plays off of them as if every single word that they speak is gospel. A lot of us know that these particular print sources are out to grab headlines in the most demeaning way possible and are seldom accurate; yet, that doesn't stop Ms. Grace from quoting them and turning them into media experts on any given subject. Nancy seems to pride herself on being right whether or not she has any evidence to back up her statements and often, when she hasn't presented both sides of any given issue that she covers. No former police officer, FBI Agent or so-called "expert" of any kind is unwelcome on Nancy's show. Their lofty and often generalized opinions are treated as if they are absolute, irrefutable truth concerning every single case that Ms. Grace deems worthy of her "hard-hitting" style. The problem is that many of these "experts" are speaking in generalities and have no inside knowledge of what the show is focusing on. They know as much as the rest of us do having studied the newspaper accounts and press conferences that have been released. I will give an example of something that Ms. Grace aired that made me so angry that I stopped watching her show. She had Anna Nicole Smith's mother on her show accusing either her daughter or her lover, Howard K. Stern of murder concerning Anna's son Daniel. The woman reminded me of a Jerry Springer Show guest and the smirk on her face was enough to give anyone the creeps. Yet, Nancy treated her like she was the Queen of England despite the fact that she has had NO relationship with her daughter for many years and no real knowledge of what took place in the hospital room where Daniel died. Anna's mother had just finished attempting to get her fifteen minutes of fame by giving a scathing article to "In Touch Magazine" and the editor of that prestigious (NOT) rag was also on the show to back up the mother's statements. Anna Nicole Smith is no saint and no one knows what role (if any) she played in her son's death. She has appeared on television on her own reality-based show acting as if she were under the influence of something and is known for self-promotion...but....does that make her a murderer? Even though Nancy kept using the disclaimer that Anna was innocent until proven guilty or some such drivel, she still acted as if Anna's mother knew exactly what had transpired. She gave that horrid woman her moment of televised glory despite the fact that neither of them had any information that would solve the riddle of why Daniel had died as a result of a cocktail of various drugs. No one knew who gave him the drugs found in his system at autopsy and no one knew if Anna or Howard were involved. Still, Nancy and her "prestigious" guest went on and on and by the end of the show Anna and Howard looked like Bonnie and Clyde. This was only one example of Nancy's "take no prisoners" approach to various criminal cases. Nancy Grace has become a walking, talking tabloid herself and for that reason I no longer have any respect for her or her approach to solving criminal cases. There are times when Ms. Grace is on the side of justice (or so she would like us to believe), but her behavior is counter-productive and all she accomplishes is to make people feel sorry for the individuals she hits out against. It's a perfect example of a kangaroo court and we all know what those are about. There was a time when I admired Nancy Grace for her style and her knowledge of the law but that time has passed and all I see now is an extension of some tabloid story, filled with inaccuracies and partial information. It proves the point once again that everyone has a price and that Nancy Grace's price was met and satisfied when she agreed to be the star of her own show/ She threw away good judgment and fairness for the right to expound and rail against anyone who she believes is guilty and it isn't necessary to seat a jury or a judge before she renders her own verdict. She is both judge and jury and her mantra seems to be "Don't confuse me with the facts". If they don't suit her agenda for the show she will make them fit or insult anyone and everyone who has the misfortune of agreeing to appear on her show and who has a different opinion than Ms. Grace. Her sign off after each show is a softly spoken "Goodbye Friend" and I imagine that it is meant to include the viewers in her endless haranguing of anyone who has the nerve not to agree with her. I am no longer her "friend" and I hope that someday she realizes that it was because of her relentless bullying that this particular "friend" was lost, never to return. ------------ About the author: Meri has a Medical/Legal background and is a former forensic researcher specializing in psychological profiling. https://www2.xlibris.com/bookstore/bookdisplay.asp?bookid=27335 Email: writers2@cox.net Comment on this article here! ------------ All articles are EXCLUSIVE to Useless-Knowledge.com.
