Dec. 23, 2007 As some of you probably know, Jamie Lynn Spears, the sixteen year old sister of train-wreck, Britney Spears, is pregnant. Jamie Lynn stars on a Nickelodeon television show called Zooey 101. Viacom, a Disney Company, owns this network that airs many shows aimed at children, pre-teens and older teens. My granddaughter watches Zooey 101 and looks up to Jamie Lynn and that bothers me a lot considering the current circumstances that Jamie Lynn finds herself in. Disney has announced that they are planning to run a "special" on teen pregnancy which is a day late and a dollar short if they think that Jamie Lynn should continue playing this character on their network. I don't think that they've decided whether or not to allow her to continue in the role as of this writing. I do know that the shows for this current season are all filmed and concluded filming in August. They WILL be shown as scheduled. There is something terribly wrong with the Spears family which is no news to anyone. Lynn Spears has two daughters and both of them are a mess. Britney is an abuser of drugs and alcohol and can't seem to figure out how to care for her own children. Since losing custody of her boys she hasn't stopped running around aimlessly, spending obscene amounts of money and doing everything possible to set a horrible example of what every young parent SHOULD NOT do. It goes to show that you can make a lot of money, garner a huge amount of fame and still have absolutely no class (and in Britney's case...talent). Should our children be watching a program where the so-called clean cut star is an unwed teenager? Should this family be allowed to continue polluting the airwaves? I am beyond disgusted that the current culture not only rewards these messed up individuals (who are obviously in dire need of help), but encourages them to continue spreading their trashy lifestyles through the publication of magazines, DVD's, Videos, and television shows. It is our responsibility to educate our children not to buy their music or watch their shows and by doing so we will send a message to the producers of their work product that we are sick and tired of what they deem proper and appropriate for young children to emulate. I am not a prude nor am I against many forms of artistic expression. I AM against condoning substance abuse, teenage pregnancy, and poor parenting. It's time for the Spears family to slither back underneath the rock that they crawled out from. I for one, have had enough of them and what they represent. ------------ About the author: Meri has a Medical/Legal background and is a former forensic researcher specializing in psychological profiling.
