The Only God – Seek Him!

By Skip Toomaloo

“Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.” Isaiah 55:6-7

It is never a wonder why wicked men remain wicked. No thought emanates toward his creator God. The wicked man sets himself up as god. The wicked man refuses to admit his unrighteousness, believing himself right in all that he says and does.

Every man needs pardon. It doesn’t seem to matter how righteous a man might appear to be, sin is always at the door. Paul the Apostle wrote that there were things in his life he knew not to do but he still managed to do them. He did not elaborate on these personal failings but he was ever mindful of his advocate, realizing he needed forgiveness every day of his life.

It is the “return to the LORD” that keeps the mercy of God working for the individual Christian. The Christian who keeps the LORD in his thoughts and in his heart always experiences the “pardon” promised by the God who keeps all his promises.

Men are requested to “Seek the LORD” while there is still time to find the grace that saves the soul. After the physical form has completed its life-cycle there is no second opportunity to gain mercy. There is no salvation. It is appointed to man once to die. Afterward, there is only judgment.

Unrighteous men stand and condemn a God they do not know. Were they to discover the true God of Heaven they would understand that God deals only in righteousness; he deals only in forgiveness; he only desires life for the individual man. All God’s warnings point in the same direction. They point to a heaven where he resides and where he wishes all men to reside with him.

Mankind today seems more intent on “saving the planet” or “saving the whales”. Men seem to have forgotten that it is the soul; above all else, that needs salvation. The scripture tells us that the soul that sins shall die, just as the scriptures tell us that this world we stand on will die and the creatures of the sea shall die and the universe that currently exists will need to be made new after its destruction.

The eventual purge of sin from the presence of the Creator will affect everything that now exists. The writer of the Book of Revelation explains that all will eventually be destroyed to make way for the new creation that will only be inhabited by God and his family. The souls who have been adopted will join into that inheritance while the souls that chose to ignore the mercy of the Creator will no longer find remembrance in the histories of eternity.

The man who seeks God now while he may be found is wise in his search. Jesus promised that the seeker would find and there is no cause to doubt the words of the Son of God.

The man who forsakes his wicked ways and unrighteous thoughts is the man who God will respond to in forgiveness. Without repentance God has no choice but to remain righteous in his condemnation and judgment against all things sinful. Not one spot or blemish of sin can be permitted to stain any part of God’s eternal kingdom.
