How To Get A Good Night's Sleep Without Drugs

By Barbara Watkins
Apr. 27, 2007

How to get a good night sleep without the use of drugs, sound impossible? In 2007 statistics say the average person gets between five and six hours sleep.

Ok, we all know how difficult it is in this day and age with most people having to juggle a full time job that barely pays the rent.

Throw in a few more responsibilities like meeting a demanding deadline at the office or coming up with the extra money to send your children to college and you have now diminished your stress level to zero.

Most of us put in eight to ten hour days at our jobs, rush home to cook dinner, mow the lawn, do the piles of laundry that have accumulated because of endless hours at the computer trying to put together a brilliant presentation.

Oh, did I forget to mention taking time out for little league practice, dance class, music lessons, dentist appointments, the list goes on and on.

You would think our mind and body’s would be so exhausted that sleep would be inevitable. “Not”

But wait a minute, some of us use yoga and stress relief tactics like walking the treadmill for an hour and meditation along with long relaxing body massages, yea right!

Reality is for most of us we either can’t afford to pay gym dues, and oh yea, we just don’t have the time! It seems we are coming back to this time issue again.

Ok, now let me tell you what I witnessed first hand, the true mystifying miracle to a good night sleep. I warn you it won’t be easy but it can be done.

Put into perspective what the most important thing is in your life and you’ll have found the answer. “Say what!” It’s that simple. Guessed it yet? It’s you.

Sometime during your busy schedule of meeting those demanding dead lines, racing to various appointments and ultimately living your life for everyone else, stop. Walk outside and look up at the sky, close your eyes and take a deep breath. Take a moment to realize this universe is much bigger than you.

Take a walk by yourself or with a love one, not on a treadmill or a track. Stop and smell the flowers, literally. Chase your child, or grandchild around the park and then trade massages with a loved one.

Treat your life as the most important deadline you’ll ever have to meet. Make time! Sacrifice if you have to, but don’t sacrifice your life or the short time spent with your love ones.

So, turn off that computer, take a sick day, and let go of all the meaningless things in your life, and most important take time for yourself and your love ones. You’ll sleep better for it. “I guarantee”
