The Myth Of Equality

I am not a racist. My parents raised me with the belief that all people were created equal. A white person is no different than a black person. People come in different colors, that's what makes life good.

As I've gotten older, however, I've been told repeatedly that blacks in white are, in fact, different. My parents didn't tell me this, no white person I know told me. The only people who remind me that whites are different than the the blacks.... are the blacks.

I can turn on Comedy Central on any given day and watch Dave Chapelle or Carlos Mencia tell me all about the differences in the races. They use terms like "wetback", "nigger", and "cracker". Everyone who hears it laughs. If someone objects to what they are hearing, they will quickly be given the arguement: "If you don't like what you hear, change the channel." However, if Don Imus says something racial, it's no longer "just change the channel", now it's a race issue. Now human interest groups come out of nowhere and yell about how you can't say such things. "EVERYONE IS EQUAL!"

If one of my black friends tells me a Polish or Irish joke that's okay; if one of my white friends tells a black or Spanish joke, he has to look over his shoulder first to make sure he doesn't get his head kicked in... or worse. Go ahead, give it a try. Turn to your co-worker and tell the a white joke. Say the words "mick" or "wop". Nothing will happen, I promise. Now tell a joke using the words "nigger" or "spic".... be sure to tell me how your "racial sensitivity" classes go.

Here's the deal, people, if we're equal then we are EQUAL. Either stop with all racial slurs, jokes and so on, or don't say anything about any of them. If you can call me a whiskey-drinking, potato-digging mick, than I should be able to call you a fried-chicken-loving nigger. Fair is fair and equality means "treatment that is the same for all."

If you want to get mad at me for pointing out your skin color, than I will get mad at you for pointing out mine.

We're equal or we're not. It's as simple as that. You can either laugh at everything, or you can't laugh at anything. It's either all "politically correct" or none of it is. You can't have it both ways.
