Apr. 17, 2007 With all of the pontificating about gun laws and psychiatric labeling coming from the various media outlets we are left with the same predicament that we face every single day; there are those who do good and those who do evil. The gunman was a screwed up man who isolated himself from his fellow students and eventually decided to kill himself and drag 32 innocent people along with him. Were there the "signs" that the media keeps talking about and could he have been stopped? Of course there were signs...there always are (if anyone wants to look) and NO, he could not have been stopped. This man was determined to kill and he did, with relative ease. No laws prohibiting guns or mood altering drugs could have prevented him from his chosen course of action and no amount of media or political posturing can change that fact. There has always been evil in the world and there always will be. Today at the Convocation at VT, representatives from all of the major religions spoke and all had some wise things to say whether their words came from the Koran, the New Testament, The Old Testament or the teachings of Buddha. They were words to live by, but sadly, even those words won't stop the evil intent of people who want to harm others. There are many contributing factors that lead people to do what this shooter did and we can blame them from now until doomsday, but it still won't stop the inevitable from happening. Is there really a safe haven for anyone? I don't think so and I don't live my life looking over my shoulder for evil either. Life moves forward with many roadblocks along the way and some of us will meet a violent end. It is a fact of life that we now must face and rushing to judgment and placing blame in all the wrong places will not solve the problem. In the case of the shootings at Virginia Tech there is only one person to blame and he is dead. He isn't the first to bring this kind of grief and horror to a society nor will he be the last. I offer my prayers and condolences to the families and friends of those who were lost and who should NEVER have died when they did or how they did. May those who died so needlessly rest in peace. ------------ About the author: Meri has a Medical/Legal background and is a former forensic researcher specializing in psychological profiling. https://www2.xlibris.com/bookstore/bookdisplay.asp?bookid=27335 Email: writers2@cox.net Comment on this article here! ------------ All articles are EXCLUSIVE to Useless-Knowledge.com.
