![]() By Ken Hughes Apr. 12, 2007 Author's Note: Exclusive article for Useless Knowledge! If UK publishes this, it will be my last article. U-K Editor's Response: Mr. Hughes has been surreptitiously double-publishing many of his U-K submissions, at websites like this, for example. U-K policy is crystal clear on this point, and Ken is clearly in violation of our policy. U-K congratulates Ken on his 500th article, and encourages Mr. Hughes to continue writing original material for publication. ES ----------- Useless Knowledge has declined to publish my articles because I don’t subscribe to the premise they own my work and therefore can tell me where I can submit articles. Ron Lewis e-mailed me saying I was destroying the integrity of UK. My reply was UK has no integrity if they allow attacks on fellow contributors contrary to their written policy. It stands to reason contributors would leave the Useless Knowledge web site. There’s only so much [trash talk] good people are willing to accept before they move on to something more interesting. What was once a very popular and interesting web news magazine with a number of talented contributors has evolved into a tabloid type trash talking rag magazine and not a very good one at that? The UK best days may have been during the 2004 Presidential campaign. A great deal of valuable information was disseminated to a vast array of readers around the world. That seems to be gone now the best we can look forward to is an occasional article that has a story line that doesn’t trash religion or someone personally. Even the person who started submitting all the hostile articles has had to hide behind fake identities in order to survive. Who gains and who loses from all this hostility? No one gains the losers are many the readers, 80 % of the contributors who left the site in frustration, eventually the site will find it’s self without readers or advertisers and will soon follow the exudes of the once up on a time crowd. Those Rag Bangers who brought the site down sure as hell won’t support it with cash contributions. I took a 9 month respite from the site primarily because I grew tired of those who couldn’t find fault with my thoughts found fault with the way my words were presented, spelling grammar etc. It wasn’t that I had a thin skin it was more their continual hammering became tedious. I post on other web sites and didn’t need to deal with those who can’t come up with an original thought but feel the need to be heard. Its Like Rosie O’Donnell is their inspiration, and mentor providing all mouth and no brainier advice. It’s the editors purgative to sink or swim with the web site as he / she chooses he / she owns the web site and controls it. I’ve made the choice to stick it out as long as there’s a UK web site or until they tire of me and refuse to publish any future articles. I’ve posted on UK for nearly four years and over 500 articles it’s become an addition. It’s not that I need the exposure my articles are carried on most search sites, Google News / Ken Hughes being the most frequent and the most popular. There’s a group or a single contributor with a group of names contaminating what was once an interesting and informative web news magazine. Once there were readers from around the world there were many talented and interesting contributors, their all gone now what’s left is a tabloid style magazine for a better description could be called Yellow Journalism There are still a few diehards who are unwilling to concede to the harsh unjust criticism of a minority of pseudo intellectuals who may know how to spell but don’t know what to spell. Useless Knowledge began with a premise less than perfect was acceptable, interesting informative information was the goal. Some where that got lost, pity. To paraphrase it was “The Best Little Web Site On The Internet.” I doubt this article will have any effect on how UK is edited in the future it’s simply one mans critique of what was, what is and what may never be again. ------------ About the author: Ken Hughes is a retired businessman, who’s traveled extensively, observed much and learned much.
