Apr. 6, 2007 The Bush Administration has taken exception to Nancy Pelosi's, Speaker of the House, recent trip to Israel and Syria to offer the olive branch toward creating peace and harmony in that region. President Jimmy Carter supported her visit and added that if one wants to open a dialogue toward good working relationships then they need to converse. Tensions have been high ever since Bush invaded Iraq with many wondering if Iran would be next. Nancy's trip is one of good will and hope. One that will inspire all parties to these tense times to work together toward the common good for all involved. Why does Bush take such exception? I believe that Bush takes exception because he genuinely enjoys the havoc he had created around the globe with this trumped up war on terror. Little people always feel big when they are the "deciders". Taking a hard line in refusing to enter into any discussions that could lead to peace is a stupid thing to do. Bush's bullying has not quelled the violence or hatred those people feel for all things American. Fact, war begets war. Hate begets more hate. Violence is the byproduct of hate and war. Americans and the world want peace. Their collective voices could not have been louder then this past mid-term election. We want this futile war to end. We want to bring our troops back home and now! Congress may be left with no alternative then to defund this war because each time they challenge Bush to set a date certain to bring our troops home he digs his head further into the sand and tells them he will veto that legislation. Detractors say that this defunding leaves the troops prone and will only add to the violent atmosphere that the people of Iraq have come to live with as "normal" since our invasion. Intelligent people know otherwise and say that the violence may increase in the short term, may even exacerbate their civil war, but overall will be the best thing for the people of Irag. This civil war without the interference of America will allow Iraq, like America in the beginning, to become a single country that governs themselves how they wish to be governed and not as a puppet of the United States under the dictatorship of G.W. Bush. For four long years we have tried things the Bush way. He [Bush] has spent more good monies after bad. Bush has added more troops against the better judgment of those in the field and those in our congress. Bush has left the term for his war wide open. He [Bush[ has lied to the American people and the world about his reasoning for initiating this war. Bush captured and killed Saddam, yet the war rages on. Bush has not, and will not, achieve peace. Bush has destabilized that entire region and continues to call this personal fight a war against terror. Most other people who had done so would have been tried and hung for war crimes, but Bush feels laws are for everyone else to follow and that he is above what common laws prohibit. Bush is a dangerous man who lives in a make believe world. He needs to be stopped! Bush must be impeached! Leaving him [Bush and his cronies] unattended is like placing a pack of wolves into the chicken coop and thinking they are not going to gobble up the chickens. It just does not happen that way in real life. The people of America and the world have nothing to lose and perhaps everything to gain by speaking with the people Bush refers to as the "Axis of Evil". One would think that a person in Bush's high profile position would have more common sense than to resort to name calling. His [Bush's] insensitiveness and defensiveness has led to more acts of terror and created a less safe space around the globe for all people. What could the harm be in someone else taking the time, making the effort, to speak to all interested parties with the goal of hopefully finding some common ground with which to forge a working relationship? Why not let the undeciders [Nancy Pelosi, et.al.] take the lead? The undeciders could not do a more pathetic job than Bush and his weak Administration. Perhaps Nancy's visit and open dialogue can help us all reap the rewards of cooperation and good will instead of hate and war? I applaud the efforts of Nancy and others like her and wish her every success in this difficult endeavor. ------------ About the author: Michelle Malsbury was born and raised in Champaign, Illinois.
