Sept. 30, 2006 The Senate finally saw that the American people wanted real action on illegal immigration and voted to build 700 miles of fence along the southern border. The vote was 80-19. All I can say is that it's about time. The border has been wide open, with millions of illegal aliens coming across and the politicians in Washington have shown only contempt for those who want to control the borders. The minutemen were dismissed as fascists, and vigilantes. Well, a lot of Americans must like Fascism and vigilante justice because most Americans agree with them. That one million illegal immigrants a year was one million too many, that we can't reward lawbreakers by giving them jobs that would have gone to Americans, or granting them amnesty and expect to have any control over our border. Chamber of commerce Republicans and race baiting Democrats were oppossed to a fence of course. They wanted Amnesty for criminals, and they wanted it now. They saw raw materials, unskilled workers that they could pay less than they could pay an American citizen, or they saw potential left wing voters who could be bought off into voting for the democrats with promises of citizenship, and government assistance. Then of course there is Mexico itself which is throwing a nationwide temper tantrum over this. How dare we attempt to assert soverignty over our own country? They said a fence would hurt bilateral relations. Translation: We're going to be really mad if you stop us from exporting our poor and stupid citizens to the U.S. so you'll have to take care of them. Well of course they are going to be angry. This is the country that prints pamphlets to encourage illegal immigration, partly to get the aforementioned poor citizens out of their country, and partly to have some influence in Washington. After all, they believe with 11 million Mexicans in America(the vast majority more loyal to Mexico than to America) they can twist some arms to get what they want. "These measures will harm the bilateral relationship. They are against the spirit if cooperation that is needed to guarantee security on the common border" (emphasis added). There seems to be a threatening undercurrent to that statement. That a securit fence is somehow against security. I guess what Mexico is really trying to say is this: You think the border is lawless now? Just try and build that fence gringos, and we will really make things difficult. Maybe Mexico should take a look at how it treats immigrants in Mexico before they start wailing about how unfair we are. The bottom line is this, and it's not hard to understand. The United States is a soverign nation, which has a right, and a responsibility to exercise control over its borders. Any country that can't control it's borders is begging for Anarchy, and isn't much of a country. The American people have been demanding something be done for a long time, and we finally got Washington to listen. We still have more to do with border enforcement, maybe now the clowns in Washington will start listening sooner. ------------ About the author: Craig Chamberlain has written more than 100 articles for Useless-Knowledge.com.
