Sept. 28, 2006 I think that Patrick Hurley, as a television writer, perhaps with aspirations to cinematic greatness, is careful about what he says about organizations like AIPAC (the American Israel Public Affairs Committee), but I have no such aspirations, so I speak the truth. The subject of a possible withdrawal of US troops from Iraq has been mooted around for a couple of years, but, in my view, this is just a game played by politicians and the media in order to appease or entertain a certain element of the American electorate. I don’t think that any withdrawal is planned or imminent. George W. Bush has said several times that there will not be a withdrawal during his term of office. Nor is it likely that there will be a withdrawal during the term(s) of the next president, regardless of which party gets into office. As I recall, both candidates for the presidency in 2004 advocated continued prosecution of the war in Iraq . The only question seemed to be how long the war would continue. Frankly, once I heard that both George W. Bush and John Kerry were pro-war candidates, I lost interest in the campaign. Little do I care how many Purple Hearts Kerry won or how long George W. Bush was AWOL! My only concern was undoing the misbegotten invasion, at least in the measure that it could be undone. I’ve posted many, many articles in evidence of the fraudulent nature of the casus belli mounted by Bush’s faction as a preliminary to the invasion. Just as often, some partisan ideologue or other has replied, trying to maintain that Bush was “mistaken”, not “lying”. Even if Bush had been only guilty of relying on “flawed intelligence,” it doesn’t resurrect the Iraqi dead, whose numbers now approach 200,000 according to some sources. Bush’s people lie even about the number of the dead! I think that expecting a change of parties in 2008 to change the course of events in Iraq is an ignis fatuus. People who hold this view are, or pretend to be, oblivious of the fact that the real impetus for the invasion, conquest and theft of Iraq was provided, not by either of the two major parties, but by the influential pro-Israel faction that controls both parties on all things Middle Eastern, through their spearhead agency, AIPAC. That such a faction exists has been noted by former Senators Charles Percy, William Fulbright and Ernest Hollings. In fact, it was AIPAC that saw to the “formerness” of Senators Percy and Fulbright. According to Wikipedia, “Speaking in Toronto in 1984, AIPAC’s Executive Director Tom Dime boasted: ‘All the Jews, from coast to coast, gathered to oust Percy. And the American politicians—those who hold public positions now, and those who aspire—got the message.’” They sure got the message! Senator Hollings was not ousted by AIPAC, but he waited until his retirement to comment on the oppressive pro-Israel bias that dominates Congress. According to Senator Fulbright, AIPAC’s power derives from its connections with all the wealthy, influential Jewish organizations in the country, who lavish contributions upon the sycophants, but, more importantly, dominate the media. Through this domination, they can usually make or break a candidate. Dale Bumpers, who defeated Fulbright in the 1974 Senate election in Arkansas, remarked, “I could have bought central Arkansas with the offers of money from the Jewish community...The offer of assistance came from people in New York and California who had raised a lot of money in the Jewish community for political purposes.” Seeing these consequences of opposing the pro-Israel faction, how many senators will stand stalwartly forth against Israel’s preeminence? Only the “former” senators will! The invasion of Iraq was an AIPAC-monitored adventure, meant to help clear the way for Israeli hegemony in the Middle East. And you expect the US to withdraw? You have to be jesting! ------------ About the author Thomas Keyes: I have written two books: A SOJOURN IN ASIA (non-fiction) and A TALE OF UNG (fiction), neither published so far.
