Sept. 19, 2006 Looking at the morning paper I see that an Arar someone or other is suing the Canadian Government for causing him to be sent back to his home country Syria where he was held for a year and tortured. Blame is placed upon the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for informing the US (incorrectly) that he was a threat to national security under the terrorism laws, who, upon receipt of Arar, had him deported to Syria. In addition the US is faulted with having him sent to Syria on what turned out to be false information. So insidious has been the constant lib left media bias regarding not offending non westerners that not once was Syria held to account for the fact that it was the country that had conducted the torture. It is as if we in the west are so afraid of mentioning anything negative regarding the ‘developing world’ that Syria it now seems was not at fault, just as the lions were not to be blamed for devouring Christians, after all this is what lions do, and I suppose, by extension, so do Syrians, (and Jordanians, Iraqi’s, Saudi’s, Iranian’s etc, etc). Why doesn’t Arar sue the Syrians for the torture? Canada accepts jurisdiction in a case involving a foreign court if there is a connecting factor so it wouldn’t be hard. Why doesn’t the Middle Eastern community stand up and chip in for the legal fees. Does it not offend the Toronto Star that he was tortured? Will we see front page accounts and denunciatory editorials as we would if the culprit country had been Canada, Israel, or god forbid, the US. No its how things are and complaining is like complaining about the rain or heat. Nothing has changed in the Middle East for over two hundred years beyond the fact that the Ottomans are no longer in charge. If they were we would no longer have to endure the constant horror stories coming out of these countries.
