Sept. 16, 2006 The terms "neo-Amish" and "neo-Luddite" are part of Fred Smith's buzzing buzzword distraction away from the main point of disagreement between John Waters and Fred. Note that (a) the greenhouse effect is due to human technology. From pole to pole the Earth is being changed by human technology. The ice is melting and soon the sea level will rise noticeably. Yes, more and more professional scientists agree that the greenhouse effect is real. It's not just an opinion. It's a fact. If Fred Smith calls these concerned scientists "neo-Luddites" because they are upset over modern technology's affect on Earth's changing climates, well, pretty soon most modern people will fit Fred's definition of "neo-Luddite." So what? Fred's just buzzing around with buzzwords. Fred's buzzing is beside the point. Note (b) War itself has become more and more destructive as modern technology has become more and more sophisticated and powerful in its destructiveness. A sci-tech junkie like Fred Smith is free to label John Waters a "neo-Luddite" but many working scientists today are concerned about the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the greenhouse effect as well. Does this make them all "neo-Luddites"? Well, these modern buzzwords "neo-Amish" and "neo-Luddite" are just more of Fred's straw men. Fred avoids the basic issues. The physicist Albert Einstein was no slouch. Einstein was intuitive enough to realize that a new way of thinking is required and he stated this publicly in 1945 not long after the USA nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In 1955, Albert Einstein and Bertrand Russell put forth a manifesto which contains the quote, "All, equally, are in peril, and, if the peril is understood, there is hope that they may collectively avert it. We have to learn to think in a new way." (From the Russell-Einstein Manifesto, 1955) The problem is, after the Einstein-Russell Manifesto of 1955, scientists didn't really focus on addressing this issue. The subject really is human intelligence itself, the optimal use of the human brain which includes how to de-escalate conflicts and pay attention to the big picture, not just get lost in minutiae and knocking down straw men. A shooting war is just a smaller conflict that escalated. A limited war can escalate into a global war and a conventional war can escalate into a nuclear war as did World War Two. Humanity needs to create the survival science of conflict de-escalation and more intelligent, more creative thinking. That's better than just millions of hippies burning their draft cards, smoking pot, refusing to get a haircut, dressing up in odd costumes, and singing about the mythical Age of Aquarius... the way so many college and university students reacted in 1968 and 1969 to the Vietnam War. If sci-tech junkies like Fred Smith want to dismiss this issue by labeling Einstein and other concerned people "neo-Luddites" or "neo-Amish" for warning against unwise use of high technology, well, that's a fair use of free speech. Smart people, however, recognize the folly of fanatical Fred's junkie thinking. A science of more broad-minded and more creative intelligence is needed, and a science of optimized human brain development and use. This includes further studies of human intelligence that is not verbal. Such intelligence is not logical intelligence. Sound logical argument arises from just one kind of human intelligence. For fanatical secular humanists to emphasize just this one kind of intelligence is limited and counter-productive. This is John Waters' main criticism of Fred Smith, t411sh, and other outspoken secular humanists. These persons are dangerously narrow-minded. They also are hypocritical because when they commit many logical errors they simply don't practice what they preach. There's no worse problem in the world today than the human problem. More and more humans both control and crave more and more and more rights, powers, energies, and technologies. Scientists and technologists are well-paid to satisfy the gluttonous appetites of people who want more and more and more and more. Meanwhile, the consumption of Earth's limited resources continues faster and faster. Soon billions of human beings will need to start being happier and happier and happier with less and less and less. Everything will need to be recycled, and war avoids recycling and is immensely destructive and wasteful in other ways. So how will this ending of war and beatification of humanity actually be wrought? Where is there a testable method for this new messianic science of defining and optimizing human creative intelligence? Fred Smith's word-gaming and one-upmanship politicking do not define this messianic method. One can search the Internet and the scientific journals to find articles about this new science of optimized human satisfaction and creativity, but such articles are few and far between. If you locate any, please let John Waters know because he is handicapped and can't search the Internet very effectively all by himself. Computer work strain's John's eyes and neck and even now as John labors at his computer, he is in pain due from the strain. John is going to have to take a break from all his computer work. John claims that his independent research (1963-2006) is on stimulating the brain, rejuvenating the brain, and optimizing human performance, even when one is handicapped. Nevertheless, even John's best creations can only introduce this study of the full human potential, that is to say, the optimally functioning human brain which includes the rational intellect integrated with the other senses and intelligences, including the unitive yogic sense. Because a number of yogis have called this integrative unitive yogic sense "yogic force," John sometimes does the same. Quibbling over terminology is a side issue that will get resolved as more capable verbalizers interact constructively with John. Just calling John what you consider a bad name (like "neo-Amish" or "neo-Luddite") is not very intelligent and creative interaction. Fred, let's do better. ------------ About the author: sixty-six years young, and vigorous in mind, body, emotions, and spirit, John L. Waters is an independent researcher on self-healing, integration, creativity, and unity. To help demonstrate the effectiveness of his research, John has created thousands of drawings, paintings, instrumental music pieces, songs, prose pieces, poems, and other inventions. John has used his research to help persons remove a mental block and solve a problem. John also gives personal presentations which illustrate his research results. Each one of these works demonstrates the effectiveness of John's research.
