Bounty Hunting Illegal In Mexico

By Clara B. Freeman
Sept. 16, 2006

My question is this: "How come those people in Mexico failed to inform the 'Dog' of this little oversight before he captured that piece of sickness who happened to come from wealth?" Assuming that Duane/you know that's his real name; Duane Chapman, anyway, let's say Duane knew the consequence of his actions; all well meaning, no doubt about it. Even if he knew the laws and could repeat them verbatim, how in the world could he not do his job as a bounty hunter who set his sights on his fugitive; how could he have not taken him down and brought him in to justice?

I say he did a good thing. But, then again, what do I know? I'll tell you what I know. I know about those three women who were raped and violated; possibly scarred for life; I know that those women were eternally grateful for the recapturing of that jerk after he fled the country during his 2003 trial. I recall a jubilant and proud 'Dog' standing before the glare of cameras describing the fugitive's capture. It was a moment taken right out of scenes from "The Fugitive," starring Harrison Ford, only this criminal was for real. His sadistic act was worth far more than the price of a movie ticket.

It's been three years since those women were raped by Andrew Luster. Three years we've been enjoying those moments on A&E where 'Dog' The Bounty Hunter, along with his wife Beth, son, Leland and trusted friend Timothy snap on their arsenal of mace, climb into their respective vehicles and set out to stalk and eventually capture their prey. The show is entertaining, informative and serves to bring those who have committed a crime to justice. It's done without blatant violence. From all reports, it doesn't look good for Duane; that's his name; Duane Chapman. His wife's name is Linda. They have a son; Leland. When all is said and done, they're just ordinary people, trained to do the right thing for all the right reasons. Bounty Hunting is illegal in Mexico.

I think it's time for a change. Archaic ways of thinking, rotting laws written way before English became a universal language, left to languish amongst the ruins of times past, should be gathered up and set ablaze. But, what do I know? I'm sure that the Hawaiian Islands are ablaze with criminals having a damn good time, right about now, after all, they don't have to run, now, 'Dog' The Bounty Hunter, has been put down....But, he's coming back...
