Sept. 12, 2006 Web pages are in a constant state of flux: The average age of a Web site is only 19 months with the average page changing every 100 days. Of course, some of the most popular sites update many times a day. Useless-Knowledge.com (UK) is no exception, this unique destination on the Information Highway was upgraded a few months ago. When I started writing for UK in September 04, this Web site was a friendly place where writers with varying degrees of experience and skill shared their musings, rants and editorials with a world-wide audience. I write a weekly column for a small town newspaper and UK afforded me the opportunity to share my opinions on a more regular basis with an international audience. But nothing ever stays the same, and UK soon became infested with sharks who took a perverse delight in attacking their fellow columnists. UK was no longer a literary magazine, but a glorified message board where flaming wars raged, driving away gifted writers like Sher Zieve and earnest amateurs like Judy Ramsook. It was no great surprise that UK was quickly dropped by Google News and the MSN Newsbot. A Web site where writers attack each other will have zero credibility with any reputable news search engine. I still visit UK every once in a while, hoping against hope that this beloved institution will once again evolve into a friendly place. If only the UK contributors confined their venom to the "Rebuttals" section, this unique Web site might regain its former glory. ------------ About the author: Robert Paul Reyes has written over 300 articles for Useless-Knowledge.com.
