Perhaps, the lessons of the past prevented the case from becoming the media circus like McMartin - Buckey Child Abuse Trials which set off a Witch Hunt which resulted in the incarceration of scores of innocent people. In many cases, the prosecuting attorneys have the mode of conviction at any price regardless of the guilt or innocence of the defendant. Consider the McMartin/Buckey Trails. The McMartin case began in August 1983 with a call to the Manhattan Beach police from known alcoholic and mentally ill woman , asserting that her son had been molested by Raymond Buckey at the school. She also claimed that her child had been abused by lions, elephants, and naked movie stars. Buckey was arrested but released for lack of evidence. Thus the police and District Attorney’s office decided to create the evidence. They sent letters to the schools and interrogated the children with leading questions. The children were browbeaten the into giving the answers they wanted. This included strange stories about ritual abuse in a Catholic Church, a Grocery Store, an airplane, a car wash and in alleged tunnels built under the school. After five years, all the defendants in the case were acquitted but the end results was ruined lives, financial devastation, lost of livelihoods, reputations in shambles and as Peggy Buckey McMartin quoted, "I've gone through hell and now we've lost everything." This case opened the door on one of society's deepest taboos. Child Molestation became the crime of the century and started a Witch Hunt which resulted in the incarceration of scores of innocent people. The District Attorney of Kern County, California prosecuted several parents for the Child Molestation of their children.in the 1980’s, These parents were given century long prison terms in Kern County. These parents have since had their convictions overturned. Scott and Brenda Kniffen spent 14 teen years in prison because authorities repeatedly asked the children leading questions with the promise that admitting abuse would bring the parents home . The Kniffen boys were finally able to admit that they were not molested after they were grown.. The accused parents successfully sued Kern County. This brings us to the story of John Karr. He fled the country because of pending charges of possessing kiddy porn. He was obsessed Ramsey and Polly Klaas Murder cases He was in the process of getting a sex change operation because he wants to be a girl. He sent some strange e-mails to a professor in the United States which sent off some red flags. Was John Karr browbeaten into a confession by the police? Is the district attorney exploiting a delusional person for their own personal agenda. Did the Boulder, Colorado District Attorney finally find the Golden Goose that would bring closure to a case that is an embarrassment to them. Granted, if the man has a thing for little girls, he ought not be teaching elementary school even if he is not a murderer. The desire to look at Kiddy Porn is unacceptable but that still doesn’t make him a murderer. Even if the man walks around in fantasy la la land with clouds in his coffee that does not make him a murderer. In another time and place, John Karr would be doing time for a murder that he didn’t commit. Instead, John Karr got a free ride back to the United States. He’ll get a slap on the wrist for his dirty magazines. He will have to register as a sex offender. His livelihood is gone.
