Sept. 6, 2006 First, what in the world did pictures of Suri Cruise have to do with IMPORTANT world news? Katie Couric belongs on a fluff show like the one she just left and NOT following in the footsteps of Edward R. Murrow or Walter Cronkite. I thought that her first show was horrid. Regarding the baby of the century....the controversial daughter of the even more controversial Tom "I know more about psychiatry than anyone else) Cruise, she's cute. There are a few things that appear to be a bit off though. Suri has a LOT of hair and it appeared that the cover shot of her on Vanity Fair showed a child wearing a hair piece which looked considerably different from the pictures inside the magazine. Also, there is a problem with her chronological age as reported by the Cruise/Holmes family. She DOES NOT look like a four month old child. I have a total of six kids (two-step kids and four of my own), and eight grandchildren. None of them looked that old at four months old. Suri looks more like a baby of between 8 and 12 months old and I am wondering since Katie's "bump" seemed to be ever-changing the last two months of her pregnancy, if she actually gave birth two or more months ahead of the announced birth. She began to show when she and Tom first got engaged last June and a first time mother seldom shows before she is at least three months pregnant (and that's pushing it). Could the family be hiding the fact that Katie Holmes actually got pregnant the first week that she met Tom and for the sake of appearances they moved things up a few months? That would make a lot more sense than trying to pass off an older child for a four month old baby. Whatever the case, Suri is a cute kid but NOT "the most beautiful baby in the world" as many of Tom's friends have shrieked to the media upon viewing this precious gift from outer space. According to Scientology, babies are born as old souls and only their physical bodies are young. Perhaps Suri is really a ninety year old woman in the body of a so-called four month old? The fact that the media went bananas over this kid and the fact that Tom hid her from the world for several months is the real idiocy here. Who cares? Was this the MOST important story in the news this week? I think not. Was this the most important story of the past four months? I think not. A celeb hungry society eats up the drivel fed to us by an over-zealous media who will do ANYTHING for ratings and magazine sales and we buy into it like starving children hoping for a handout of any morsel of food. I congratulate Tom and Katie on the birth of their child no matter when it actually took place (the birth certificate was also a matter of contention according to the Smoking Gun). Whether Suri is 4 months old or 40 years old I really don't care. I recently had a new grandchild myself (she is now two weeks old) and of course, we think that she is the most beautiful baby in the world...that's the way most parents and grandparents feel about their offspring so I will be happy to allow Tom and Katie to think the same of their own child. The difference is that I am not famous nor did my kids hide their baby daughter in the hopes of generating a huge buzz for whatever reasons that the Cruise/Homes group did. I wish them luck and I wish the baby a happy, healthy life. I sincerely hope that she doesn't get any of the many diseases that Scientology disallows immunization for and that her mother does not suffer from post-partum depression. Now...can we get back to what's really important in the world on our nightly news broadcasts and can we PLEASE get rid of "Cheerleader Personified" Katie Couric and exchange her for a real journalist?
