Sept. 4, 2006 If the UN were an American corporation it would have filed bankruptcy dozens of times, its stock would be worthless, Kofi Annan would be in prison, and the American left would be using it as an example of fraud, corruption and incompetence. But since it is a sacred institution to the left with its utopian vision of peace and friendship it is defended with every breath they can muster. Like all conservatives I am naturally suspicious of anything that smells of Utopian thinking. The idea of creating a perfect world if we all just work together is not just childish, it's dangerous. And I think the UN has spent over 50 years proving. Of course the UN was doomed before it ever met, mainly because of the aforementioned utopian idealism, but because every country was given a seat if they wanted it. So for over forty years it was divided between the communist countries and the free world. The communist countries with their anti americanism did everything they could to use the UN to spread their vile ideology. The communism is mostly gone, but the anti Americanism remains. The UN proved not only to be corrupt, but also hypocritical. Preaching human rights while allowing countries that have no such rights be the watchdog for them. Claiming to wanting preservation of the peace while doing nothing to stop the fighting. Passing resolutions and then doing nothing to enforce them, and then expressing shock when they are openly flouted. The UN has gone from incompetent embarrasment to foe of the free world. Its top members pocketed billions of dollars while allowing Saddam Hussein to keep his brutal grip on the people of Iraq. They grew rich off oil vouchers while most Iraqis lived in squalor. Rather than condemn the aggressor in the Hezbollah-Israel war they posted up to the minute troop movements of the IDF on their website. Undoubtedly helping Hezbollah kill IDF soldiers or escape IDF attacks. But what does the UN care? Were only talking about Jews here. So what if a few got killed. It's the arabs that matter we need their oil. Well, Lebanon doesn't have any oil, they just wanted to see Jews dead. It now appeasses Iran in its nuclear ambitions. After all what do they care? The only countries that will be threatened are the US and Israel. (Well everyone is under threat from Iran, it's just that most countries are too stupid to see it.) It's peacekeepers don't keep the peace, just ask Lebanon or the Congo. It's wasteful, it's incompetent. It' time for us to leave the UN and let it wither and die like its predecessor the league of nations. This will come as a shock to the left but for most of human history there was no UN, and things went on pretty well. In fact they were better when there was no incompetent organization to waste billions and get in the way. Nations were able to take care of themselves without morons in blue helmets getting in the way. No, it's time we leave the UN and find a real use for that valuable real estate they occupy.
