Our Daughters And Our Sons

By RD Larson
Sept. 1, 2006

When we talk to our daughters or sons about marriage, do we tell them that it's okay to have the baby first and marriage later? Most likely NOT. I don't know anyone who wants his or her daughter/son to have a baby to raise alone. We want our kids to have a happy marriage and hopefully a real family.

So why are we not commenting and complaining about celebratty stars like Jolie and Pitt, Cruise and whatever her name is? When Ingrid Bergman left her husband and had an affair with Roberto Rossilini it nearly ruined her career and she had a hard time time getting work in America. More on this. http://www.trivia-library.com/b/hollywood-celebrity-scandals-ingrid-bergman-and-roberto-rosselini-part-2.htm We spend more time complaining about gays or lesbians getting married than defending the innocent children born into possible poverty and unhappiness. There _wouldn't_ be as large an abortion rate if we made more effort to inform, educate and counsel our young people while we protect them from “star hooligans.”

Is it any wonder that other nations think we're immoral? Our television shows prove we're idiots. Fox and CNN spent hours posing as The Inquirer with John Carr, an obvious unreal suspect and now we're being hounded to death about a money-grabbing, child predator with too many wives and all of his bs teaching about “family”? That's not freedom of speech. He's an alleged criminal and doesn't deserve all this press. If anyone buys either of their soon to be best sellers, recognize that you have been “had.”

Look at the sports celbratties that behave like cavemen without common sense and the hype they get no matter what they do. This can't be right. Who is supposed to be the heroes for our kids?

Of course, as parents we want to be those heroes, and we try to set standards and behaviors that we believe in. But do we do it 24/7 or do we fall off the wagon, fudge on our taxes, bet on the game, and forget to vote? If we raise our standards for ourselves we can't help but raise our standards for our children.

What is the point of healthy eating with a healthy body if the inner self is left to the whims of current popular stars and athletes? Take Paris Hilton http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14396326/ as a role model-- is that good? A boy bad mouths the other team because he hears his uncle trash talking the other team when he's watching football. And Mom, does she gossip after swearing to keep her word to a friend? Does she cheat at the grocery story?

Television and music swamp this society. The words and sounds are pounded into our fertile minds. Shouldn't we worry? If some other society is playing war music, what would you think? Senseless, thoughtless behavior comes back to bite you when you're a parent.

We should expect star people like Mel Gibson, political figures, and other public figures to set high standards of behavior, common sense and decency.

Oh, heck, the cat is all set to watch Desperate Housewives this year. I don't know if I can stand any more caterwauling about nothing not to mention bad behavior. If he were under age, I wouldn't allow it.
