Are We Winning The War On Terror?

By Craig Chamberlain
Oct. 25, 2006

What Vietnam was to my parents, what World War Two was to my granparents, the war on terrorism is the conflict for this day and age. In Vietnam the press showed the war on TV and tried to convince the American people that the NVA was defeating the American military on the field of battle. In World War Two the United States united to defeat the axis powers, while in vietnam and the current war there are many in this country openly rooting for the enemy, and hoping that America loses its war. I'm no political philosopher but I can't call anyone hoping for his country to lose a patriot.

But this is not about the media, or the fifth column in this country. They are stupid and irrelevant, it's about the average Americans who think that we aren't winning this war or that it is not worth fighting.

Let's go back to the beginning of this war. On September 11th, 2001 nineteen Al-Qaida terrorists murdered 3,000 people on American soil. We did nothing to start this war, we did not ask for this war, but we have every right and obligation to win this war. In fact, contrary to the propaganda of the left, and the muslim world the United States has been, if anything, pro muslim. We're far too kind to the "religion of peace". We sided with Albanian Muslims in Kosovo, we sided with Bosnian Muslims against Serbs and Croats, we protected the Persian Gulf from Saddam Hussein, we went to Somalia with the sole purpose of being humanitarians, not conquerors. We side with Turkey even as they occupy Cyprus, we are the only country that calls the murder of Darfurians, all muslims, what it really is-genocide.

Yet for all we do to help Muslims, and the fact that we go out of our way to be nice to Muslims has not earned us any goodwill, but only murderous intent. On September11 crowds ran into the street to celebrate. We have every right to crush the terrorists and to protect our country.

But are we winning? Most Americans seem to think that we are losing. Europe does nothing but cave into Islamist blackmail, and many Americans think that because Iraq doesn't resemble the garden of eden we have failed. American impatience is showing itself in the worst way possible. What we see on the nightly news is not even close to being the whole story. Most journalists check into the Palestine hotel, hire Iraqis who bring them news(the Iraqis know what the journalists want to hear) and then they put it on the news. That's what passes for journalism.

Now, of course, Iraq is not coming up all roses. But most of the country is peaceful. We have Al-sadr who is powerful only because money from Tehran gives him the ability to hire an army of private thugs. He is really only known for his family name, not for any accomplishments of his own.(sounds like some politicians in this country) Removing Al- Sadr, and by that I mean we put a bullet into his head, would remove the biggest threat from the shiite side. We crushed his army once but committed a foolish move by letting him remain free.

But Saddam is out of power, and a democratic government in his place. No matter how imperfect that is an improvement. The terrorists are dying on the streets of Baghdad and Ramadi, and not Washington or New York. There are no longer terrorist governments in Kabul or Baghadad. Yes, we still have North Korea and Iran to deal with. Let's hope that we deal with them soon, or our successes will be wiped out.

This, contrary to the talking points of the democrats, is not just a war on Al-Qaida but a war against all islamists who would try to wage war on the U.S. They are dangerous, media savvy and could still convince the American people that it is safer to stay home and pray that they don't come for us again, but if we don't make that decision there is no way they can beat us.

Sure Europe is weak and afraid of its own shadow, but there is no reason we have to be the same way. Let's remember they can only win if we allow it. So let's not vote to allow it.
