Oct. 23, 2006 Way back on May 21st, 2006 I read with pleasure: “ Iraq parliament approves new unity government” by Qassim Abdul-Zahra of the AP. I was especially interested in the part of the article citing “New Government Goals” such as: “Pursuing a national dialog and widening political participation; Working with coalition forces in Iraq, quickening the transfer of security responsibilities to Iraqi police and army; Implementing laws to disband militias and integrate them into federal forces; Holding elections for provincial councils; Setting up of governmental committee to refer detained Iraqis to courts for trial and release those detained without court order; Encouraging investment and attracting international capital for development and reconstruction; Addressing administrative and financial corruption.” All the above are worthy goals of any government. The fact that Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish lawmakers in the new cabinet of Iraq could formulate these goals as a unified effort was a good step forward. The Iraqi government went to work; culminating in a visit of the Iraqi Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki to a joint session of the American Congress in July. Mr. Maliki also visited neighboring countries and the United Nations to assure the world his government was trying to establish itself although it was still greatly dependent on the coalition forces. Mr. Maliki told Congress: “Let me be very clear; this is a battle between true Islam, for which a person’s liberty and rights constitute essential cornerstones and terrorism, which wraps itself in a fake Islamic cloak.” Mr. Maliki also said: “ Iraq is the battle that will determine the war.” (See – Iraq leader calls nation front line in terror war by Anne Plummer Flaherty, AP, 27 July 2006) During this presentation by Prime Minister Maliki he was “heckled” from the “gallery in the hall” and was disputed by “several Democrats in attendance”. There are several other “players” in this melodrama known as “ Iraq ”. An AP article by Robert H. Reid: “Larger U.S. troop presence may lead to al-Sadr showdown” was very flattering of the fat and bearded little Shiite-killer-of-Americans. Quote: “Like Hezbollah in Lebanon , the al-Sadr movement runs social services ranging from caring for widows and orphans to buying unclaimed bodies in Baghdad and other cities. The parallels with Hezbollah reflect a network of clerical-led Shiite groups throughout the Middle East, which have been gaining strength due to the rise of both Iran and the Shiite community in Iraq .” There is no mention of the fact Hezbollah and al-Sadr are responsible for killing many American soldiers and many other innocents through terror activity. Any “showdown” that would affect a breakup of Hezbollah or al-Sadr’s Mahdi Army would shorten the war against terrorism. There are other “players”. As we have those like Hezbollah and al-Sadr and al-Qaida killing American soldiers; we have their enablers in the United States calling for enemy victory. The AP article (no byline): “Activists demand pullout” tells us of a meeting between 14 “anti-war activists” led by Cindy Sheehan joining “Iraqi lawmakers” (presumed Sunni) “in demanding a timetable for withdrawing U.S. Troops from Iraq .” This group also went among American enemies in “ Syria …then to Lebanon ” to discuss “the humanitarian crisis caused by 25 days of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.” Of course this group didn’t bother to meet with anyone in Israel to discuss the “humanitarian crisis” caused by Hamas and Hezbollah terror attacks against innocent Jewish civilians. Right next to that article was” “ U.S. should get out of Iraq immediately, Edwards insists” by the AP (no byline). Edwards is quoted: “There is no chance other countries in the world will help Iraq as long as we are an occupying force…” Of course he didn’t mention the fact that as long as we are present there is also no chance any other country will try to help themselves to a large piece of Iraq as would possibly Syria , Iran , Turkey or Saudi Arabia . Then the article by Nada Abou El-Magd of the AP: “Al-Qaida deputy urges global war” reminds us that al-Qaida may be busted up but it is still surely slithering around their caves waiting to kill again. Quote: “Al-Qaida’s No.2 leader issued a worldwide call…for Muslims to rise up in holy war against Israel and join the fighting in Lebanon and Gaza until Islam reigns from “ Spain to Iraq ”. He further enjoined: “We will attack everywhere!” So that bird-seed-brained pile of Islamic fundamentalist, gray-bearded, stupidity still thinks he has something important to emote from his personal rat-hole. The old guy is an interesting piece of Islamic scum! Another interesting “player” is columnist Joseph Galloway, who seems to have found his niche as a Bush-bashing al-Qaida apologist. In his column: “Bush & Co quietly cutting and running” he tells the reader: “The politicians are cutting and running from the war even as they doggedly deny that the thought has ever crossed their minds. They’re now as feverish to get out of Iraq as once they were feverish to get in.” That paragraph is so full of crap in the face of President Bush’s last press conference where he reiterated that we will not leave until Iraq can stand up their own working government. But Galloway is like that proverbial terrier with a sock. His next column started with and actually followed through on a hypothetical: “What if the Shiites turn against the U.S. ?” What if Osama bin Laden sees the error of his ways and surrenders? What if Saddam Hussein is acquitted of all charges? What if Hillary Clinton finally takes that massive hump off her back she lovingly refers to as “My husband”? WHAT IF! Galloway makes and entire column out of WHAT IF! But here is your answer Mr. Galloway. If the Shiites turn against the U.S. forces in Iraq we will kill them too. (They already have. We already have. They quit pretty quick.) Even Saddam Hussein is still a “player”. At least once a week we get a Saddam trial update where Saddam walks out or gets dragged in or has one of his co-defendants dragged out or in or they go on “hunger strikes” or the chief judge resigns and the new judge takes over or Chris Matthews interviews Ramsay Clark to gain new sympathy for the aged tyrant. I really loved the headline: “Saddam asks to be shot, not hanged if convicted” by Bashra Juhi of the AP. The article almost made me cry too when I read: “I was brought against my will directly from the hospital, Saddam told the chief judge. The Americans insisted that I come against my will. This is not fair.” I give Saddam the big BOO-HOO! What a freaking moron! Finally, no “player” wants to talk of out-right victory. There is discussion of appeasement, of splitting Iraq 3 ways, of giving blanket amnesty to terrorists and a whole host of half-way measures that will only assure prolongation of hostilities. This paragraph by Trudy Rubin, in her opinion piece: “Dems, GOP both need to get a grip on Iraq reality” intrigued me when she wrote: “Bad U.S. policy and worse execution have left Americans with two unpleasant choices: Leave Iraq now and ensure that country’s collapse, with awful consequences for them, us and the entire Middle east, or stay on with no guarantee that perseverance will stabilize the country.” As much as everyone wants “guarantees” in war, there is no such thing. You either persevere or you run away from your responsibilities. We determined to persevere through World war I and World war II. We determined to persevere through 40 years of “Cold” war and we need to determine to persevere against Islamic radicalism until it is as destroyed as the empires of Nazism and Japanese Totalitarianism. Our enemies know you don’t win anything if you are not a player. It is time for America to ensure we’re playing through to the last rat-hole in Iraq. ------------ About the Author: Michael John McCrae has contributed over 500 articles to Useless-Knowledge.com.
