Palestinians, Republicans And Democrats - Voters Take A Lesson

By Michael John McCrae
Oct. 2, 2006

The State of Palestine that has been erected at the expense of Israeli territory has again broken out in political infighting.

There are two parties who are vying for a piece of the American largesse of $75 million a year. The Fatah Party wants to use the money for infrastructure, for payment of military and police salaries and for the purchase of some munitions to kill more Jews. Hamas wants to use the money to buy munitions to kill more Jews and to pay for lavish vacations on the Egyptian Riviera.

You might think of these two parties as Democratic and Republican Parties similar to those in the United States .

Fatah and Hamas believe in settling differences by shooting at each other. I believe the Democrats and Republicans should take note.

FOXNEWS.com ran an Associated Press article: “Palestinian PM Calls for Calm After Hamas Gunbattles” Sunday, October 01, 2006 which began: “Heavily armed Hamas militiamen's efforts to break up anti-government protests on Sunday sparked gunbattles across the Gaza Strip that killed seven people in the worst internal Palestinian violence since the terrorist group took power.

“Militants from the opposition Fatah group retaliated by torching the Palestinian Cabinet building in the West Bank . The violence comes amid growing frustration over forming a national unity government that could end crippling economic sanctions.”

I continually read of the “frustration” of liberals against the policies of the Bush Administration. This frustration has no boundaries. Liberals speak against all of Bush’s policies, even the ones that promote liberal giveaways. It is a hard habit to break.

But they vent their frustration with words and finger wagging which makes them look rather wimpy. Now, if they really wanted to make their point they could be more like postal workers or Palestinians. They could flash their .357 Magnums and AK-47s and start blowing away FOX News interviewers and burning down their sound studios!

But this is the way it should be. Both Fatah and Hamas are terrorist based organizations. Neither has proven a viable political organization capable of running an ice-cream stand let alone a legitimate and democratic government. These people vote with bullets, not ballots. Opposition parties need never apply and if you think of recognizing Israel you are anathema.

More from the article: “"This is forbidden in Islam, we are in the holy month of Ramadan," said Majed Badawi, 33, who managed to escape after his car was caught in the crossfire.”It's a shame on Hamas, who call themselves real Muslims, and a shame of Fatah as well. Why are they fighting and over what? We are victims because of both of them."

Even the holiest time on the Islamic calendar is not a deterrent to violence from terrorists. But the Palestinians should have known themselves. Violence is their history. Trading the Fatah government for one led by the even more violent Hamas was a major step backwards for any possible peace initiative.

More from the article: “Violence between Fatah and Hamas loyalists plagued Gaza throughout the spring, but largely disappeared when Israel launched an offensive here in late June after Hamas-linked militants captured an Israeli soldier. Looking to a possible new Israeli offensive, Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, of Hamas, urged Palestinians to end the internal violence "in the face of a serious escalation from the occupation forces."

The one unifying factor for Palestinians is their collective hatred of Israel . A recent new offensive by Israel against Hamas terrorists firing rockets into Israel from Gaza may stop the violence between Fatah and Hamas. But then of course, they’ll turn their unified terror tactics against innocent Jewish women and children.

Mahmoud Abbas has been traveling the world in search of support for the Palestinians in spite of the militancy of Hamas. He has repeatedly called for a coalition government that can deal in the world’s affairs. Hamas continually rejects his calls for unification and peace. As noted: “Abbas, …has tried to end the crisis by persuading Hamas to form a coalition government and to accept international demands to renounce violence and recognize Israel . Hamas has resisted compromising its radical ideology.”

The rest of the article examines the extreme convolution that is now the Palestinian government. There are no real solutions. Hamas will not be satisfied with any government that recognizes Israel and will continue to mount terrorist attacks against Israel from Gaza . The only possible reaction from Israel will be military response to each attack.

America would be wise to stay out of the internal conflict. When two terrorist organizations begin killing each other there is no need to do anything but ensure the killing remains contained

In America , political disputes are conflicts settled with words. In more civilized societies that is as it should be. Perhaps one day Hamas and Fatah will disband. Perhaps one day they will give up their hateful and wicked ideologies and embrace peace. Or perhaps one day they will just kill each other off in their collective stupidity.

I am reminded of the American Congress. Republicans and Democrats never reaching consensus; continually name-calling and condemning each other’s policies and both failing to recognize the American people; just too busy giving themselves advantage, money and personal perks while spreading political terror throughout the country.

Voters should pay more attention.
