Nov. 28, 2006 Of course you'd have to expect Jesse Jackson would get involved in the Michael Richards flap. It's been a while since there was a high-profile slur against the black race and Jackson needs to keep his name and face in the news. That is, after all, his livelihood. So, after inviting Richards onto his radio show and listening to his incoherent apology (Richards obviously trying to save whatever is left of his career) Jackson has called on all people to boycott the newly released SEINFELD:THE 7th SEASON. Now, I've watched most of the Seinfeld episodes, many of them more than once, and I can't recall anyone - least of all Kramer - saying or doing anything that reflects badly on any race. But, of course, Michael Richards has nothing of his own to boycott. And the producers of the DVD set might suddenly find themselves eager to make a big contribution to the Rainbow Coalition... This entire matter is just another example of how the smallest act can be blown out of proportion by those trying to line their pockets, consolidate their power, or both. (I'll bet Al Sharpton is hacked off that Jesse Jackson became the frontrunner on this. Still, good ol' Al may find a highway or a Richards Street to block in protest.) Let's review: During his act at a comedy club, Richards was heckled by a black man in the audience. He responded with the "n" word - several times. Even made a reference to lynching blacks. Richards was wrong, dead wrong, but is that any reason to blow the incident up to national proportions? Never. Richards was speaking to his immediate audience, not to the nation. What should have happened was that any blacks in the audience who were genuinely offended by Richards' remarks should have rushed the stage, whipped his -ss and had done with it.
