And What About The "H" - Word?

From Wikapedia: “Hymie is used as a derogatory slur for "Jew". The word comes from the name Hyman (from the Hebrew name Chaim (חיים, meaning "life")). "Hymie" was originally a nickname for Hyman. In recent years, the name has been used almost exclusively as a racial slur, particularly due to a famous interview with Jesse Jackson, during the 1984 United States presidential election, where he referred to the Jews of New York as "Hymies", and to New York City as "Hymie Town".

I had to look that up. There were more than a few references to the good Reverend Jackson in regard to the racial slur he made famous in 1984; the year he did not apologize for his racial slur.

Today I read: “Jesse Jackson Urges Boycott of 'Seinfeld' DVD Box Set in Wake of 'Kramer's' Racist Rant”, Monday, November 27, 2006 in FOXNEWS.com, which began: “Black leaders on Monday challenged the entertainment industry, including rappers, to stop use of the racial slur that Michael Richards uttered in his tirade. The Rev. Jesse Jackson and others said they will meet with TV networks, film companies and musicians to discuss the "n-word."

I’m sorry; all these attempts to close the corral gates after the horses have left the building doesn’t make much sense. The reverend Jackson among others has been using racial slurs to make brownie points with the voting public for a long time. Rappers have been more frequent with the “n”-word almost as much as the liberals have used the term “neocon” as a term of Jewish derision against the Bush Administration!

When are we going to see a conference to end the “F” –word or the “M-F” term which is so prevalent in much of today’s music, film and political speech?

Jackson is quoted: “We want to give our ancestors a present," Jackson said at a news conference. "Dignity over degradation."

What a noble thought from a man who has at least one illegitimate child he refused to pay child support for. What will his illegitimate child think of his “ancestor” who wouldn’t take responsibility for his “love child”?

Naturally we heard from the political left: “U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., charged that only situations such as the Richards incident turn mainstream media attention to issues involving the black community.”

Oh, I don’t know about that. There have been important articles written about middle-class black prosperity and business ownership. There have been the efforts of Bill Cosby to get black men to take more personal responsibility with their lives. There have been black soldiers fighting in the war against terror that have won medals and Presidential accolade. Condoleezza rice is still tirelessly working for Peace in all Middle Eastern hot spots. Michael Steele almost won his conservative election bid in Maryland . Donovan McNabb is out for the rest of the season. All of these stories and more should be turning “mainstream media attention” to “issues involving the black community” but it takes a stupid white comedian who can’t take some heckling from a couple of black guys who didn’t like the jokes; flying off his personal racist handle to return the hecklers’ insults; to blow another individual incident of hate speech into a national brouhaha.

Let’s have a Congressional Investigation shall we?

Maxine Waters just had to throw her bucket of gas on this piddling little fire: “"This is not simply about whether or not the black community forgives or forgets, this is about understanding that this is pervasive, that this happens in all of our institutions, one way or the other," Waters said.

We want to “forgive and forget” Jackson ’s derision of Jewish people in 1984 but he has yet to apologize once for that. This comedian guy has apologized six different ways to Sunday including an apology on Jackson ’s own show and the forgiving Reverend is still calling for “boycotting” the newest “Seinfeld” DVD.

Now, I’ve only seen all of three episodes of “Seinfeld” so I really don’t care. I also don’t care if Richards never makes another entertainment dollar. I do care that Reverend Jackson and Maxine Waters are blowing this incident out of proportion and laying blame on the entire non-black community for using a word that is far too prevalent in the core of black society.

Clean up your own house guys. Take out the log and then treat the splinter. Okay?
