By Patrick Hurley Nov. 28, 2006 After the results of this past weekend, I now know several things to be true... Florida has a mediocre offense. Notre Dame has no defense. West Virginia is the biggest CHOKER in the country. Virginia Tech is very dangerous right now. USC could defeat everyone except Ohio State with the two best receivers in college football. Notre Dame does not deserve to play in a BCS Bowl game. Their schedule this year was pathetic. Troy Smith will win the Heisman Trophy but it SHOULD go to the Buckeye defense. The strongest conference from top to bottom is the SEC. The second best is the Pac-10. The Big 10, as usual, is overrated and they will get their butts kicked in the bowl games...as usual. The Big East was surprisingly good with Rutgers, Louisville and West Virginia having good seasons and Cincy and Connecticut competitive in most of their games. The ACC is the worst conference in football but basketball season has started so they will more than compensate for it. The Big Twelve....zzzzzz. The matchups I would LOVE to see in the Bowl games? Cal vs. Notre Dame. Michigan and USC. (no way that will happen!) Florida and Wisconsin. Boise State and Louisville. LSU and Boston College. Arkansas and Oklahoma. Texas and Hawaii. (the over/under on that game would be in the 70's!) Coach of the Year? 1. Pete Carroll for getting USC to the championship game with a VERY young squad and virtually no running game. 2. Houston Nutt for bringing the Razorbacks up out of nowhere. 3. Greg Schiano at Rutgers. 4. June Jones working magic at Hawaii. 5. Bret Bielema for his his great job at Wisconsin. Greatest Disappointments? Texas. They had EVERYONE back except for Vince Young and they struggled down the stretch because of quarterback problems. Mack Brown is only a good coach when he has that Young kid. Florida State. Bobby Bowden did his impersonation of Joe Paterno from two years ago. Cal. This was supposed to be their year. What happened? Georgia. They should have been a lot better than a .500 team. Oregon. After the Oklahoma game they showed their true colors and if you know their colors and how RIDICULOUS they look on their uniforms that is not a pretty picture. Miami. Talk about a train wreck in South Florida! Most Fun teams to watch: Ohio State on offense AND defense. USC on defense. Hawaii on offense. Boise State on offense. Louisville on offense. Greatest play of the Year: It had to be the Rutgers fans running ON to the field and then, realizing the game was not quite over, running OFF the field. It looked like an immigration drill over the border. Like most of you, I would love to see a college football playoff but I do not believe it will happen in my lifetime. The bowl lobby is like the NRA...very powerful. So, this is the best system we have for now. As a Trojan fan, I am nervous about UCLA in the Rose Bowl, but even if my team loses, I will get to see them in the Rose Bowl in January. Either way, they have been a lot of fun to watch this year. I look forward to Mark Sanchez getting his chance at quarterback sooner than later. As the bowl games approach us in late December I have one thing to say, TEE IT UP!
