Nov. 26, 2006 Atlantic City was never the Mecca for prostitutes, but four have died facing Mecca. The police and news are making a big deal out of the four victims' ritualistic position, face down, shoes and stockings missing, and head toward the east. The news media inserts the "heads pointing toward the Atlantic City casinos," as if that were the aim of the murderer. But what if his aim was much longer? Muslims prostrate themselves on their prayer rugs and with bare feet and facing East, toward Mecca, do they not? Now it might be a complete stretch to say that this COULD be the significance of the four victims' identical positioning. Serial killers have their own bizarre mental processes and the significance of the womens' arrangement in death is certainly significant to the killer. Are the police overlooking something a bit more sinister and twisted about this killer? In Muslim countries women are not valued highly. Lately some have been used as human shields, some have been sent out to their deaths with bombs, and wives and daughters have been murdered by husbands and fathers to redeem family honor after commiting such horrible crimes as having been raped. Is it too much of a stretch to think that a deranged Muslim serial killer might arrange his victims facing Mecca, barefooted, and prostrate? Doggone if I know. But if I were an Atlantic City prostitute, I would be careful about "dating" any Muslim, whether from the Middle East or a Black Muslim. I've had some success in solving crimes long-distance. In the case of the DC serial killings a few years ago, when the police were looking for a lone white guy in a white van, I correctly predicted, two days before the crime was solved, that it would be two black men in a dark blue or black automobile. And I was on the money! On these pages, in the Julie Popovich murder, I predicted the killer would turn out to be a Middle Eastern student she had been seen talking with in the bar where she was last seen, and he's been arrested and charged with that murder. Let's see where this case goes. ------------ About the author Brooks A. Mick: Physician, still practicing medicine but retired from the US Army.
