Nov. 24, 2006 The 25th of November 2006 is Australia’s state Election Day. I personally don’t know whom I want to vote for. I haven’t been happy with any of the parties available to me. It is a sad state of affairs when we can’t decide on any party because of a disbelief that no one available is suitable to running our state. But this is not what this article is actually about. This article is about the Political Party Liberal. While trying to decide whom I will vote for I did a little research on all of the parties available to me. And what I found was very interesting is that I came to the realisation, probably not a new one, but a realisation all the same that the Political parties running our country are a bunch of contradictory hypocrites. No I know you’re not surprised. But it’s true! I was researching the Liberal party and this is the statement that I actually found in their section entitled “Our Beliefs”. The statement says, “We believe in those most basic freedoms of parliamentary democracy - the freedom of thought, worship, speech and association.” www.liberal.org.au Now this statement shocked me to say the least. They believe that we have the freedom of worship? Why this shocks me is since coming closer to Christmas we have seen many articles in our papers stating the Governments stance on celebrating the birth of Jesus. Now as I understand it Christmas is supposed to be about Christ. So the Government has stated that no schools, kindergartens or Child care facilities are allowed to actually tell the kids about Jesus, because it might offend someone that is not of the Christian religion. Yet they believe we should have the freedom of worship and speech. So if we have this freedom why are we being told what we can and can’t tell children at school? As far as I knew Australia was a Christian country, the English birthed us as “Australia”, yes I know that the Aboriginals were here first and they weren’t Christian. But the land we know as Australia was founded by Captain Cook an Englishman who then brought English convicts here. Our main religion is Christianity. So why don’t we have that freedom to celebrate Christ’s birth in Australia? Well the Government is afraid to upset the minority. Isn’t it funny how the majority has now turned into the minority? The Government is afraid of what will happen if a Muslim or Buddhist or Hindu or atheist family was to have their child come home telling them about how Christmas is when Jesus was born. Well if this is the case why call it Christmas? Why not call it Santa day or just cancel it all together? This is what I don’t understand if we celebrate this day in Australia and we take the day off work and school and we give one another presents then why aren’t we allowed to teach the children what the true meaning is? So this year I’m not sure I want to vote for anyone, I think this year I might give the ballot paper a big smiley face, illegal or not illegal it doesn’t matter because I have the freedom to do so, the Liberal party say they believe I do. ------------ Email Samantha King: matthew5.14-16@hotmail.com Comment on this article here! ------------ All articles are EXCLUSIVE to Useless-Knowledge.com.
